Default ZV+ charging/pc recognizing problem

My daughter's ZV+ is having charging, pc recognition, freezing issues. On it's own it will not turn on, connected to a pc the blue lights will pulse (like it's charging normal), but the screen remains blank and is not recognized by the pc. It remains this was for about 5 minutes, then I get the "USB device not recognized" message, the screen is now showing a selected track and looks as if it were playing, except it is frozen. The battery icon shows only a thin red portion and the blue lights are no longer pulsing. I'm also noticing the Zen gets warm (how much is too warm?)

From what I gather on other threads could this be a battery problem in that it is so dead it won't charge anymore?

Thanks!

If you have a wall charger leave it plugged into that for a good few hours, over night ideally. But yes sounds like a battery issue!

Glad to report the zen is working again!

I ordered a replacement battery, took apart the zen and was dismayed to find the old battery is soldered in, but I figured what the heck, nothing to lose. I heated up my soldering iron, disconnected the battery leads, snipped the connector off of the new and soldered them onto the board (sweating, off course, those contacts are TINY!), reassembled it plugged it in to my computer. Booted up but to the same frozen state had been in. pressed the reset button a few times. Same result. :-( However, I remembered the steps to get into recovery mode and voila! Disk cleanup and reboot, rebuilt library!! Very cool. My daughter has her Zen (and headbanging music) back!

Sometimes I get lucky

Wow, great job! Not sure I'd be brave enough to try that. Mine still seems OK, doesn't get that much use now though as my Clip Zip is my go to player in most situations I used to use it
