I have Sansa Clip Zip. I was ready to install rockbox but then it said I had to go find a firmware file and blah blah blah. Seemed to complicated at the moment. I used the hestitation to talk myself out of installing it. I'm afraid that if I don't like it I will not be able to go back to the old OEM software.
I listen to SOME music but mostly listen to audio books. Should I install it? Will I be able to get rid of it if I need to? |

Nobody can tell you if you should install Rockbox or not. That's a personal decision best made after some reading. My opinion is if you're here asking because opening a link to download a firmware file is too much effort or seems complex, no.
See the link in my sig for more information. More info on installation and removal: AMSv2 status page http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaAMS

I bought a clip zip a few weeks ago because it was quite cheap
and I always wanted to try rockbox (but never had a matching player). Donīt mind about installing, itīs very easy, an you donīt loose orig. FW, you can choose between both. But (TBH) I mostly use original fw meanwhile. Rockbox is pretty overloaded with features and funktions and may be useful for some, but Iīm a "folder-based user" , I donīt need playlists, several sortings, calendars, games etc. And I like to reduce the menue of OF to a minimum (hide needless functions ) But Iīll keep Rockbox nevertheless

If you like the limitations of the sandisk firmware, have fun. Just don't post that as if it makes you some type power user.
If you're a "folder-based user" Rockbox kicks the crap out of the sandisk firmware. I understand it may be a bit complex for you to actually see the full file structure but for me it's beats the heck out having the firmware hide what it doesn't think you're bright enough to understand.

While skip is 100% correct in stating “nobody can tell you if you should install Rockbox or not.” Based on what you wrote, which I’ve bullet pointed below, I’d wait until you are comfortable by taking his advice and reading about it as much as you can, then and only then could you make your own decision to install or not.

That is entirely up to you, if we tell you that you should and you fudge it up, you’ll only blame us. Yes it's easy to remove, just look over the manual. Edit: Quote:

Rockbox is so easy to install, in the end, and uninstall, you really might want to try it.
The only real possible issue I've seen is, Rockbox might make your player unable to play DRM'ed files in the future, even if it is uninstalled. If that is an issue for you, you may not want to try Rockbox out. |
