problem installing rockbox

Using this thread... http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ad.php?t=66292 I unzipped the firmware update and the bootloader into zips root folder. I unplugged the USB and zip and everything updated. them I unplugged zip and was told "files not found -plug USB cable". I plug in USB cable and nothing happens.

Am I supposed to have the RockboxUtility-v1.2.14-64bit.tar.bz2 unzipped into the zip or unzipped into my pc or on my pc not unzipped?

When I turn off zip and turn it shows rockbox firmware splash screen (very cool!) but also says files not found.

Have I done anything harmful yet? What do I do now?

O wow! Never mind. I decided to just dive in and I got it right. But we shall see...

Sounds like you installed the bootloader (patched firmware) but did not install the .rockbox folder. On that link dfkt has his patched build, dl it and unzip to the root of your player.

In the state it’s in now you’ll have to boot to the OF to get it connected. Hold the << button as you boot and it should boot to the OF, make sure it’s in MSC mode, connect and do as I stated above.

Amazing. "start" starts in rockbox and << + start starts in OF.
Rockbox starts faster (immediate) but I also have to put on my reading glasses. Lots of stuff on there.

Yes and db refresh is much better with rockbox.

Yes there is and that's where the manual will come in handy

Edit: "I also have to put on my reading glasses" you do know that in rockbox you can change the fonts to a larger size, which makes it easier to read the screen.

Would it make sense to increase the font size (for the menus at least) to 10 points instead of 8 points? It does seem a little small in the simulator, and trying 10 seems to work pretty well for me.

Also note that you can use a different theme (i.e. What's Playing Screen)--check out all the great ones at the Rockbox Themes page. Many of them are much simpler and/or use bigger typefaces.

With my less than stellar eyesight, I found 11 point Nimbus to be a decent compromise between screen real estate and readability on my Clip/Clip+. 10 would definitely be a much better default than 8, which is positively tiny. OF uses a font size of about 14 points.
