I also need these files to unbrick my Z5 so can someone please extract them.

1) Put your device in UMS mode and then run:

2) Email me the files or post them on rapidshare.com

If successful I will then post solution to repair YP-Z5

You can download a specific firmware updater for the Z5 here :http://dump.ru/file/540116/

Install and run this program
Connect The Z5 while holding the center button (recovery mode)and wait

It works fine for my bricked YPZ5 Player

edit: just bricked my working Z5 with this tool... now white screen. Hardware issue... Why the hell have I tried it on Windows 7

edit2: Finally managed to upgrade the firmware and screen works again!

Thanks lebellium. Samsung YP-Z5 updater worked perfectly for me. My device freezed when switching it on, showing samsung logo and not responding to any key press. I installed the Samsung software in windows XP, connected the YP-Z5 to the usb port while holding the select key pressed (recovery mode) and windows detected the device and installed the drivers automatically. Then I executed the utility and it recovered the device. Thanks a lot!

Reading this while charging a Z5 on this laptop after juggling the files on it slightly.

The Z5 is a jewel, and I won this one in a contest back in Fall 2006. (And then got a second one in a different contest in early 2007.)

Thanks again from me, lebellium. I got the white screen of death and could not get my Z5 to respond at all, despite XP Windows Explorer being able to see all the files. I did a Windows disk format, then ran the updater, and hey presto!

Having loaded all my music back, the little beauty is as good as new.

Indeed this tool is perfectly working. Once run onto device, it will:
1) Erase the whole nand (memory)
2) Load a minimal linux kernel into the device
3) Load USB drivers to access mass storage drive
4) Copy the updater to the storage drive
5) Reboot the device
6) Install the system
7) DONE You need now to put on device the newest update file and you get a new Z5
