Huawei announces the Ascend W1, the company’s first Windows Phone
The Samsung ATIV Odyssey wasn’t the only new Windows Phone 8 handset announced at CES 2013. Huawei has finally joined the Windows Phone party, bringing with it the Ascend W1, a mid-range smartphone designed to provide great features and battery life at a low cost.
The Ascend W1 features a 4-inch display running at a resolution of 480 x 800, as well as a 5MP rear-facing camera and a paltry 0.3MP front-facing camera. These are powered by a 1950mAh battery with 479 hours of talk time – more than any other Windows Phone on the market – a Snapdragon 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and 4GB of storage. It also includes a microSD card slot, so you can add up to an additional 32GB if you so choose.
While exact pricing and availability isn’t yet available, the device will go on sale “starting this month” in Russia and Asia, followed by other countries in the near future. The Ascend W1 comes in black, white, red, and blue.
