I just did a side by side test, and my preference was for the HA-S160! The treble on the Ha-S160 is much better. The HA-S160 is 1/4 of the price of the PX100!!!! The HA-S160 in black is only $12 now on Amazon. i have the original PX100, not the newer PX100II.

I wish I could get my hands on a PX100 and a PX100II to compare them to my current PX90....

I've had and liked the PortaPros before, but never at the same time as the others mentioned so far in the thread, so I couldn't accurately compare them.

I have both the Portapro and the Flats. The Flats aren't bad at all, especially for the price. I'd still rather pay the additional for the PortaPro. Being open they bring a dimension to the sound I just don't get with the Flats.
I had the PX100 and traded them away just as they were discontinued. Never had a chance to do a real comparison to the PortaPro but I did to the Flats. The Flats gathered dust and the PX100 became what I used daily. Mostly it was the sound but the way they folded was also a factor. Once I folded them I could stash them in a shirt pocket easily. The Flats don't fold at all and while the PortaPro squish down fairly small but they still aren't nearly as compact.

I liked the Portapro 10+ years ago before I tried the PX100 and HA-S160. Since then, I don't like Portapro. I do like the KSC75 though.

Variety being the spice of life is the way I think about it. The sound sigs are different yet close enough I can't see myself getting to the point where I couldn't "stand" any of them.
I prefer the PortPro but I still use the Flats as a change of pace. If I get tired of the closed in feeling I shift back to the PortaPro. Sometimes little changes like that really freshen up my music experience. I'm not going to voluntarily listen to anything I consider really poor for very long but an occasional hot dog instead continuous steak and lobster makes me appreciate the nicer items just a bit more.

I had the PX200 earlier, but they were just lacking bass for me. Then I bought the PX100, which I love ever since.
After all the positive reviews (and them being so cheap) I also bought a pair of HA-S160, but like the PX200 they did not have enough bass, so I gave them to my daughter ![]() I am no 'basshead' at all, so my conclusion is that I just don't get a proper seal with this type of on-ear headset. I just wanted to point out that your mileage may vary depending on your ears / head size. Cheers johnb |

In comparing the HA-S160 to the PX100, I have a feeling that the PX100 really doesn't produce much more bass than the HA-S160, however it seems like it does since the PX100 seems to me to be treble deficient, so the bass stands out more. Imo the PX100 has a very warm tone overall, and seems to color the midrange with excessive warmth, while the HA-S160 sounds very neutral to me. I guess many people prefer a very warm headphone rather than a very neutral one. The JVC HA-S650 has the extra warmth that the PX100 has, however the the HA-S650 is closed and has even more bass punch than the PX100. The HA-S650 is also cheaper than the PX100II in the US.

I'm not buying another JVC headphone until it can run for 1500 hours on a single AAA battery, has 6 microSD slots, and costs less than a pack of gum.
