I rooted my first 5.0 and a 4.0 both were running 2.3.5. I Used superoneclick 2.2 and had no problems. When i tried to root the new 5.0 - 2.3.6 superoneclick hangs unresponsive. I waited 30 min. before i decided to bail and force close the program before disconnecting. Should i have waited longer?
So if anyone has rooted a 5.0 with 2.3.6 please let me know how you went about it. |

Wait you would root it if it was already rooted?

check XDA, IIRC you need to flash a custom kernel then you'll be able to root.

make sure you install the samsung usb drivers. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956 or it won't ever work and that the player is in download mode.

Well I flashed R3 to my 4.0 so i could use voodoo sound. I did the 4.0 so that if somthing went wrong I would not kill my 5.0. Im thinking that rebooting my computer was key to the player hooking up properly.
The bad news is after installing voodoo and being impressed I went to power up at lunchtime and got samsung boot animation bootloop. I dont understand. I changed my boot animation three times. So the player restarted several times without any issues at all. I just got home and reflashed R3, it passed but on reboot ive still got bootloop. Will flashing a rom fix this? I do not know what to do. Guess in the meantime ill search the forum for an answer. Needless to say I think I no longer want to root my 5.0 if I have to flash a kernal. Now im freaked out about it. |

Boot loops on the 4.0 are pretty easy to solve, 9 out of 10 can be solved by booting into CWM recovery (volume up and power) and wiping cache, wipe data/factory reset (which will mean you have to resetup your player, like redownload apps) then under advance wipe dalvick cache then reboot, if that doesn't work then download this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...t=stock+rooted (assuming you have a USA version) and flash it with Odin then from stock recovery wipe data/factory reset, as long as you don't flash anything to do with CM7 or CM9 recovering from a bootloop is easy as pie.

Did a factory reset and got it back. Sucks i lost lots of data. Thats what i get for not listening to that little voice that was repeating itself. Back up your data. Back up your data. On the better side i now have a nandroid backup of the fresh system. Im now using TerraSilent. Man voodoo is awsome.
Might be a while before i mess with the 5.0. |
