My portable companions. (left) AiAiAi TMA-1 and Earsonics SM3v2, (top center) Victor/JVC HA-FX700 (top right) Ortofon e-Q7 and Audio-Technica ESW9a (right). All driven by my only source, Cowon J3. My source may appear outgunned but my gears are all very cooperative so I didn't find the need for additional power, my player has more than enough of it.

what are those things some of you guys have on the back of your players? its like you taped a battery pack to it.
anyway these are mine:

slick (red)- 4gb
slick silver 2gb doesn't work
coby (red) 4gb
element electronics (long black player) 1gb
Sansa clip (small black decorated one) 8gb +16gb microsd card
Sylvania Clip on (light blue) 2gbs
I sold my dead ipod and got all of these plus 2,16gb micro sd card (for the sansa and backup comp files)

Those are portable amplifiers, the one you use to boost the volume of your headphones, or at least it was supposed to as far as those users is concerned.

Hey guys, back at making homemade docks again, this time I took a deodorant bottle twist cap and fixed the docking adaptor, I think I'll keep it like this ^.^
It's small enough to be definitely portable xD

Last but not least, a bit of showing off

Thanks, it's matte black so it matches all my gear quite well ^.^ had to make some small snippets on the sides of the cap to ensure a perfect fit, taped it too from the inside to make it sturdy enough. I had to push USB Cable a bit higher than usual as the adaptor doesn't fit the E474 (It's a bit wider than the A805)

edit : Photo I just took a while ago with the player docked.

@XTR95: Ahaha nice idea for the deodorant

Very good deal: on ebay.fr I found a Sony NW-A855 16GB pink for only €16,5 (= $21,5)!!

It's a Japanese model released in November 2010 with the S-master and noise cancelling. It is supposed to be an update of the A840 but it's very hard to find any difference. Personally I only see the line-in recording as additional feature. No english website is able to give clear differences between them.

The advantage of having a Japanese version is the exclusivity (for my collection ) and no volume cap. But the huge drawback is the interface in Japanese language only :S
I use the english user manual of the A840 to understand the settings in Japanese but that's not easy^^

The SQ seems to be very good but unfortunately there is some hiss audible with my UM3x

In the end that's exactly what I wanted: a cheap Sony 16GB player with tactile buttons yeah!

Now thats what I'll call a steal! Brilliant find mate, and it looks so good despite being pink lol. Makes me wonder if I did a mistake by not choosing the A844 when I getting the E474 because the A840 and the A850 look oh so good *_*

Nice find. I like that color. I also like Sony players for what they are. Tactile buttons and a easy UI go a long way with me. They may not be an audiophiles dream player but they're lots of fun and easy to use. I don't see the language being a huge drawback. The Sony UI is so simple I'd think if you had one it wouldn't be tough to figure out another in a different language after a little experimenting.

You're not the only that doesn't hear difference between the different models. I've had both E and S models and haven't heard enough difference to believe the marketing hype that the S-master amp is worth paying extra to get.

I've read that Sonys hiss with sensitive IEMs. With my older ears and the headphones I use I don't hear it so I don't worry about it. I take it up a single notch in the ClearBass, bump up the treble a little with the equalizer and that gives me a sound I can listen to all day.

That's the thing, these Sony players are so easy to use and have a great time with! ^.^

Brushing up my rusty photoshop skills a bit just for fun :P

Very nice!!! And I prefer clearbass @2-3, depending on the hp I use. And the EQ also goes up & down accordingly.

That Arrow should worth a e-Q7 or a SM3v2 already. With a powerful player like a J3, you could drive virtually any IEM you throw at it without needing any amplification. Just saying...

All in good time...I may eventually upgrade, but that takes time and money.

Yes, I am well aware of this, but the Arrow has other features besides gain. Also, what's that they say? Ah, yes, "we amp because we CAN!"
