What? Too long? Ya shoulda seen it before I edited it down.

I guess the idea that somehow, someone, in some unknown fashion, should be more proactive in protecting audiophools from themselves hit the right switch to trigger one of my walls-o-print. Considering the number of times I've seen someone who really knows their stuff get shouted down by the "only trust your ears" people that just doesn't sit right.

I believe it really is up to each person to dig in and safeguard their own wallet. The information is out there and readily available. The links I put in here don't start to represent a minor fraction of what's out there. If someone prefers to not exercise due diligence and wants to just throw money at finding what's best for their needs I can't see how you can lay that at the feet of those who have made the information available.

Why is this that they stay out of it to a greater extent?
Probably for the same reason one will probably not waste too much time trying to convince a flat-earther that the earth is round. The evidence is already well documented.

The price for the Tera-Player has now doubled to € 1680. Personally I applaud this boldly innovative move - not only is this sure to double the sound quality as well, it also puts the TP back ahead of iRiv... I mean the esteemed Messieurs Astell and Kern, who recently achieved a record-breaking sound quality measuring € 1300 with their AK120.

I have no idea if any improvement beyond this is possible, but I am sure the marketing departments are working hard at increasing prices even further for our listening pleasure!

A few too many hard drugs, I think.....'cause he's just plain nuts!

And don't forget, his recommended headphone for this outrageously priced little box is the Koss PortaPro.

He's completely nuts. Or maybe not: I'm sure some idiots will still buy it.

840 Euros isn't exactly "student price" either.

Oh, I don't think they're idiots, just highly susceptible to the audiophile bs that gets thrown around,...they want to be in with the crowd. I just hope us posting here doesn't give him new life across the interwebs,...too many fools flock to shit like that.

ZOMBIE!
I know several people who own it. Here in Tokyo, the portable hifi league is well stacked. AK120 is pretty standard, and is run next to expensive amps as well. Personally, I'm enthralled that people buy expensive products. I'd hate for portable audio to be populated completely by cheap plastic junk.

Whether or not these expensive players perform better or not isn't what I care about. I have a feeling a number of people, however, do. Of course, if it was my money on the line- and specifically because I have no dog in the fight, I would vote with a player that is made well, that has industry support, and does gapless. I also don't want poor low Ω performance as I will be using it with a multitude of earphones.

I say all that only for this reason: I will be borrowing (possibly) the AK120, 100 and Terra players for review at ohm-image. I may provide simple RMAA measurements. But I've given up the horse- at least as all-that-matters-is-performance. I'm much more interested in how a player handles and works for the day to day and if it fulfils the role it sets out to fulfil. If it is just a luxury device, then it had better act like one.

If it is a performance-targetting device, it had better perform up to snuff. If it is a consumer device like a Walkman, iPod, or Cowon, it had just better work and somehow survive the rigours of naked pocket life.
