Steel Panther - Balls Out - 2011

I've had this since it came out, and enjoy listening to it occaisionally but the "humour" portion of it wears thin quickly, and so long term appeal is limited. I really wish they'd record under a pseudonym and do "legit" music, because they're obviously all talented musicians, and this isn't for mixed company or cranking in public by any stretch. Still crack up to if you want to be like Tiger Woods though.

Royal Hunt - Future Coming From The Past - 2011 - (1996/1998)

I knew going in that the video was going to be crap and it is. It looks like zero cleanup effort.

But the 1996 show is still great. They actually used two female backup singers (on stage!) to flush the vocals out properly for both shows. The 1998 show seems flat though and camera angles/lighting are terrible.

Kobra And The Lotus - Kobra And The Lotus - 2012 - Japanese Edition

I've seen the name floating around for awhile, but didn't realize they were female fronted. The samples sounded intriguing enough to spring for a reasonably priced Japenese version with two extra tracks. This comes out of the gate with a great Chastain like vibe (without the vocal grit) with guitars all over the place, but it kind of peters out on that front further in. Still pretty enjoyable, but wish they would have kept the vibe all the way through.

Black Sabbath - 13 - 2013 - Best Buy Edition

Another one that's hard to separate release politics from the music. There's the standard 8, deluxe 11, Best Buy deluxe 12, variations on T-shirt editions, and the "super deluxe" which is the only official way to get the video content (which should be on Blu-Ray for the $100 price they're asking), but drops the 12th track.

http://www.blacksabbath.com/

Then there's the Bill Ward situation.

So the music. I've came onto Sabbath with Dio and Ozzy on his own, and quite frankly prefer both that way. It's a pretty solid if unspectacular effort, fairly sludgy low tempo for the most part. I was afraid it was going to be unlistenable after one amazon reviewer's assessment of "Rick Ruin's" participation, but it doesn't sound as bad as some of the other hot and crispy releases.

The Move - Shazam

From allmusic.com

Compared to the Move's long-gestating 1968 eponymous debut, their 1970 sophomore effort Shazam is unified. It was not culled from sessions from a period of 14 months but instead largely made at one time...but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's any easier to get a handle on the album. the Move changed greatly in the period between their first albums, with original bassist Chris "Ace" Kefford leaving in a cloud of acid in 1968. In his absence, rhythm guitarist Trevor Burton jumped over to bass, beginning an odd period where the group was cutting songs, most penned by Roy Wood but a few written by David Morgan, a fellow Birmingham-based songwriter signed to the publishing company of Move lead singer Carl Wayne. Pulled between these two camps, the Move finally had a true hit single with Wood's gorgeous, watery psychedelic epic "Blackberry Way," not long after Burton left the band and Richard Price was pulled in as his replacement so the band could earn money by touring cabarets in Europe. Here, the band grew muscular and weirder, traits that are showcased on the short-yet-sprawling Shazam. Throwing out the concise constructions and meticulous miniatures of their psychedelic singles, the Move concentrate on heavy progressive rock on Shazam. With the exception of the gentle, string-laden "Beautiful Daughter" -- quite clearly a holdover from previous sessions due to both its sweetness and brevity -- none of the six songs here clock in under five minutes, with two sprawling over seven and "Fields of People" inching toward the 11-minute mark. To what extent this was an intentional experiment or a way of coping with a lack of material is hard to tell; of these six, only the thunderous opener "Hello Susie" truly qualifies as a new Wood original, as "Beautiful Daughter" dates earlier and "Cherry Blossom Clinic Revisited" itself is a reworked, expanded version of a song from the debut. "Hello Susie" also points the way to the heavy, hooky rock & roll the Move would patent on Message from the Country, and it does feel different than either this new "Cherry Blossom Clinic Revisited" or the three covers that make up the second side of Shazam. All these four songs are arranged so the band can dabble in color and texture, shifting from guitars as heavy as their Brummie cohorts Black Sabbath to fragile harmonies. It's wildly inventive music and, as pure sound, the Move may never have been better than they are here, as there are more ideas in each of these long, languid jams than most bands have in a career. Once again, the sheer number of ideas can be intimidating upon first listen and there may be so many that some listeners may never get past this rush of invention, but Shazam rewards repeated spins many times over.

Drain S.T.H. - Horror Wrestling - 1998

Been home all week, so different listening patterns. Best Alice In Chainsian all female group that was out there. Loved these gals, but have to be in the right mood. Killer depressing minor key harmonies.

Suze De Marchi - Telelove - 2000

Was desperately hoping for a Baby Animal's 3 from this one. Not really here. Didn't even bother with Il Grande Silenzio for the same reasons this guy laid down (if ineloquently) about it and generally redoing your stuff accoustically

http://www.amazon.com/review/R2BOXALU5FLSKQ/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B000ZQAH8E&linkCode =&nodeID=&tag=

The jackals on amazon want $150 for it, but I'd bet there's an Australian mp3 version of it if they'd let you buy it from "your region". This might be a great album if you hadn't already been exposed to Baby Animals. Luckily there is finally a #3, but haven't got a copy yet.

Jeff Beck - Live At Ronnie Scott's - 2009

My major Jeff Beck exposure was Wired, There & Back and Live with Jan Hammer. Fabulous show, although in context, I could have done without Joss Stone and Imogen Heap(?). Jason Rebello on keys especially tears it up. The Blu-Ray adds a show of the Big Town Playboys, but the disappointment here is how straight JB plays it.

One might get the idea by monitoring this thread that you like Opeth, Marvin. I haven't done the math, but it seems like they account for like 60-70% of your posts.

France Gall - Musique

One of my favourites from Les Annees Musique - a best of collection from Gall.

Below two videos of the song, the first being a more interesting video but the second do have better sound quality.

Gene The Werewolf - Rock N Roll Animal - 2012

Pretty damn good party rock cd with lots of hooks and a fair amount of baked in cheese. Not sure of longevity, but it's definitely fun early on.

Monster Truck - Furiosity - 2012

Saw these guys when looking at The Winery Dogs (can't wait until Tuesday!). Kind of hard to describe but definitely in the retro-rock category. An amazoner says a mix between audioslave and skynyrd. Regardless it's a pretty solid album all the way through.

Hysterica - Metalwar - 2009

Another all female metal band (yay!) in the trad/power vein. I'm digging it on the first couple of listens. Sadly, they felt the need to include death growls on the 2012 release, so I'll wait for that one.

I hope LaBrie left that crap off of his upcoming solo record.

James Christian - Lay It All On Me - 2013

When I saw the cover, I was kind of worried this would be an accoustical snooze fest. Luckily it's maybe a shade lighter than the House Of Lords mojo. Pretty good, plenty of electric guitar, but guitar tone choices seem odd.
