Default H320 won't play files after format

I formatted my H320 with my laptop (right click > Format) and then it stopped playing mp3 files I upload onto it. The voice files play, however--any mp3s created by the record function play fine. I tried upgrading the firmware and formatting it again (NAVI > General > Format), the files show up in the browser, but they are not recognized by the H320 and won't play. Can anyone help?

I've done some searching around and it occurs to me that it slipped my mind to back up any hidden software files before formatting the device. I'm guessing this is different from the firmware? If so, is it possible to download this software somewhere online? Otherwise, is there a hard reset option?

Weird issue

What's your current firmware?
I just checked on my H320, there are no hidden system files.

What I suggest you is a full format (not quick format) in FAT32 and a scandisk (CHKDSK). Then try again to play the MP3 files and if it still doesn't work, install Rockbox with the Rockbox Utility.

Welcome to ABI.

More information is needed. Why did you format the drive in the first place? Please list what was occurring before the format.

I originally formatted the drive because I found that when I tried to access it in Windows, it would take an unusually long time to display. The status bar would load quite slowly and stopped at some point near the end.

I did a full format and did a scandisk as you said, but it still doesn't work. Here are the results of CHKDSK: http://oi42.tinypic.com/a430bt.jpg

I have installed Rockbox, which works fine. I'm trying to uninstall it now because I'd like to resolve the original issue, but I can't seem to remove the bootloader.

EDIT: Rockbox is now uninstalled, bootloader and all.

DB Scan doesn't seem to work, strangely. Selecting "Yes" doesn't do anything but bring me back to the General menu. What is it supposed to do?

I am not sure on this but this seems like the hard drive needs to get replaced. A replacement hard drive is not that expensive and is relatively easy to replace. As an alternative, you can install a solid state drive via a CF card interface which is less prone to damage than a standard hard drive.
