iriverter

Free, fast, and easy. Set the Creative ZVM as your player, and scale the bitrates for audio and video back to 128k and 518k respectively. Then just drag and drop.

Feel free to lower the bitrates if you need more space, those are just the highest I've tried.

I agree that iriverter is a great option especially if you have any widescreen movies that you want to be made to fit on the your insignia's video screen (it will crop the sides). I set the video bitrate to 256kb as you really can't tell that much of a difference between the 512kb ones and it makes the files about 30-40% smaller and they also seem less prone to locking up the player (an issues I have had with 512kb encoded files).

Also agreeing that iriverter is a godsend for this player. It can rip straight from the DVD as well.

ok i dont get this program. after it said do you want to abort the install and i said yes, it said install complete. so when i converted the original file that was 8.66MB. i converted it to 256 for the bit rate and now the file size is 24MB. why is it 3 times the size.

Same thing with me. Even worse.... I can't "uninstall it". I hope it's not a trojan, or spyware. That would stink. The computer I put it on has a fresh install of XP that took me 4 hours to load.

Yeah, I got that error too. It still seems to work though.

Anyway, it might be that your source video had a low frame rate. And iRiverter is converting it to the full 30 fps. That can increase the file size. Unfortunately I see no options for adjusting frame rates in this program.

You know what, I'll just PM you with a link to the Arcsoft program.

I think that Insignia includes a media converter on their CD that comes with the player. Or, may have a converter right on their site.

He doesn't have the disc that comes with it. I sent him a copy though. So all is well, as far as I know...

I just bought the cover for the larger Insignia last night at BB. It was on sale for $19.99. Although, it makes the jog dial a little difficult to move. But, the player is safer. And, more dust and water resistant.

(Sorry to get off topic).

hmm a cover huh. thats interesting. well i cant test the convertor because my pc is acting up. random restarts, usually when i try to unmount or disconect a usb thumb drive or change any thing with in device manager. it all started because my x fi cant find enough resources to work. i have plenty of resources to work. 2GB of overcloked ram and 250GB HDD space.
