Of course you won't get anyone that claims 24/96 sounds superior to 16/44 to make an ABX test to verify those claims. That's not how that audiophile bullshit works.
![]() I did some ABX tests of 24/96 vs. 16/44 material. It's impossible to hear any difference at all. I used 24/96 SACD rips and made my own downsampled 16/44 versions of them, with professional dithering and anti-aliasing applied. That way I can be sure to have the exact same audio material for both. Often there's different sounding mixes on the SACD layer and Redbook CD layer of a SACD, so that's why people claim to hear differences between 24/96 and 16/44 - yet in fact it's just a different mix, and people could not hear any difference if the mix/mastering were the same.

If you don't mind slightly larger size, some digital recorders can record/play 24 bits of some audio format (but not flac), ie Sony M10 http://pro.sony.com/bbsccms/assets/f...rder_A1178.pdf

If we are getting into larger size/pro audio territory, he could just lug around a Cantar-X.
I'm sure you'd make quite a splash anywhere you land rocking that and some flashy cans =D

No mainstream maker that's trying to make a profit would bother to add a feature that's not going to appeal to a large number of buyers. By large number of buyers I mean millions. It's doubtful the number of people that believe there's an audible benefit from files the size of 24/96 would be enough to make the needed R&D, engineering, marketing and other associated costs worth the effort.

While I do not believe there is any audible benefit from 24/96 files and would recommend anyone thinking of this to try some ABX testing, look here ... Help me here can't recall if that triangle Pono from Neil Young plays them. Oh and was it ever released, can't be bothered to look as I would never buy one

I think the Pono will support them,...and possibly the upcoming FiiO X3.
Then there's (supposedly) the iriver AK100, but it has horrible playback specs, is overpriced, and only works (decently) with high impedance iem/hp's. a waste of money overall. Lastly that I'd even bother to mention is the ibasso dx100. It was going to be an amazing product, until it's crazy pricing, woeful battery life, lackluster performance, and exceptionally bad & buggy version of Andriod killed it for almost everyone. There may be others that claim to do what you ask, but almost all downsample during playback. This may or may not include Oppo, HiSound, etc,... The jury is currently out on them. If there's something I missed please post it,...I'm curious me'self.
