Then I would think it wouldn't be a firmware issue causing the no connection, but more so an actual connection issue or even a software/driver conflict.
If WMP10 or WMP11 is installed on the XP computer, you won't need any software. In fact, if you have WMP10/11 installed on your computer along with Creative's software, I would remove the Creative software completely. It has been known to cause conflict with MTP support.

OK- i'll give it a shot.
Aside that i have noticed that the battery still isn't 100% charged- but it's almost full. Can this somehow cause the problem? (not likely i guess..) Thanks again |

FAIL. it won't be recognized on XP either. it's a SP2 system with wmp10.
this is really depressing. |

sadly, no. I have looked under "portable devices", "system devices" and "other devices".

With WMP10 installed, it should show under Portable Devices.
It does sound like a dongle issue to me. What kind of AC charger are you using and how is it plugged in?

Iv'e been using both a Motorola razr usb charger, rated 550mA@5V, and an AC charger rated 750 mA @ 5V (not at the same time P: ).
edit: oh and obviously, usb via pc. Last edited by FeedMeH; 06-17-2008 at 02:11 PM. |

The ZVM can be real sensitive when charging through the USB port with anything besides a computer. The 550mA/5V charger may be ok, but I would not connect the 750mA charger to the USB port, so hopefully you have it connected through the dongle. See here.

It's a AC charger, i have connected it through the center connection on the dongle.
Just in case, is there a way to verify that the chargers didn't damage anything? Thanks again for your help. |

Yeah, try another dongle.
![]() Unfortunatly, another dongle or one of those cables that would eliminate the dongle should be tried to verify if there is a problem or not with the dongle or the data port.

Ok, thanks for your help. I'll try to get another dongle and see if that fixes the problem.
Edit: I forgot to mention. when i plug in the dongle with the usb cable, the unit powers on- so it detects connection. problem is, it doesn't connect with anything. Last edited by FeedMeH; 06-18-2008 at 12:01 AM. |

update: i got one of those dongle- less cables from a friend. tried to get recognition on both machines- no luck.
i'm actually quite angry at creative. since i got my first ZVM i have spent so much time troubleshooting and fixing various problems- more than i actually spent using it. i'm really angry at this, and the lack of support from creative. |

So, that eliminates your dongle. However that connector/port is still in play or possibly something else mainboard related. You did say you have charging issues. Does it charge a battery at all?

It charges the battery full, no problems here.
I'm simply not interested in their repair service anymore. I have sent my previous ZEN to them in order to get it fixed and it took about four months (I live in Israel D: ) untill I got it back. oh and it got totally smashed up in delivery, so they didn't fix it because of physical damage (that's not their fault, but the shipment company's). Anyway, i prefer to get things fixed myself. |

Oh, ok. I was going from what you said above about it not charging it 100%.....

I won't buy another one. since my first ZVM died i bought this new one, and now this doesn't work. If you declare it dead- i'll toss both of them out of the window and that's it with creative and zen.
Is that final btw? no chance of fixing them? Thanks for all your help BobbyRS. EDIT: YES!!!! you inspired me to start switching parts between my ZVMs and now it works! I have used a hard drive and battery from the new one, the board and screen from the old one- its alive and syncing! Thnaks everybody for your help, especially BobbyRS!

Glad you were able to build a working one! Just do me a favor though: Don't use that RAZR charger on your player anymore. Although I can't know for sure, I can't help but believe it may have been responsible for your second ZVM's failure to connect.
