Hi! I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone could help me with my problem. My problem is similar if not exactly like spardasieg's. I too cannot seem to play any files on my external drive. It shows up on the 'My Computer' screen but and I can't find any files on the player itself. My micro sd card is 2 gb by sandisk. I unfortunately cannot call best buy as I am currently not living in the US. If anyone else has a similar problem and was able to find a solution, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The database is corrupted. Format the INTERNAL memory (no need to format your SD card).

what do you need to format them in? Fat, Fat32, NTFS? Mine simply says can not format external memory

Format the internal memory using FAT32.

Thanks so much! Formatting the internal memory did the job!

really? Why would formating the internal have effect on the external?

If the database is corrupted (which resides on the internal memory), sometimes the player will believe nothing is on the card or thinks it already knows what is on the card, and therefore won't index anything on it.
Formatting the internal memory clears the database, forcing the player to build a new one and re-index whatever is on your card. |

Does this need to be done everytime data on the card is updated?

No, it should only need to be done when the player's database becomes corrupted (and hopefully your database isn't corrupting with every transfer...).

My mp3 is doing the same thing. If we format the mp3 and the external memory card is inside of it will it erase that too?
