Bottom Line; Is the U3 Mac compatible?

Hi folks, I'm really hoping you can help me out with some info. I have an eMac G4. My iPod shuffle recently died on me and to be honest I was never really happy with it. So this time around I'm trying to stay away from iPods all together. Unfortunately, I went for a Sony NW-E015F unaware of the SonicStage software and now I have an mp3 player that I cant even use. So I'm looking to change it for the U3 but after looking into it, am even more confused. Some say its mac compatible, some say its not. All I want to use this for is MP3s, I really dont care to transfer files or whatever on this. And I'm really not a very computer/tech savy guy. Bottom line question is will this work with my Mac, either through iTunes or drag-and-drop or 3rd party software. I'd appreciate any info to help before purchasing. Thanks/Joe.

Outside of Asia, the U3 will be compatible with Mac OS X, but only by use of XNJB.

Sorry, there is no MTP support for win2k which I am aware of. If anyone is interested in OSes and situations which it can, see this link.

So you mean i can disregard all the threads down there, just install the XNJB and that's it?
I am a G5 and also a PC user and im thinking about getting U3

plus, i live in new zealand, the one i will be getting will be from austrailia,
is that outside of Asia?

I do not know from personal experience, but other members here have posted that they have had success with XNJB (See this post). However this will not allow the U3 to function as a standard storage device (to store any file type), but it'll accept media files so it can still be used fine as a MP3 player.

This does apply to a U3 bought in Australia and New Zealand.

hi there, i received my u3 yesterday (for x-mas) and was devastated when i found that it wouldn't work on my Mac (running 10.5 leopard). so i done a google search and found this forum and thread. i downloaded XNJB and within 2 minutes of downloading it i was connected to my u3 and uploading songs..

i would like to note that i was completely drunk ( it was x-mas day afterall) at the time and im only new to macs (will never go back to pc's) so its easy to use to..

i would like to thank these forums and the contributers for making my day soo much better..
