I picked up my Zen V+ today and it seems great. I bought it to replace my trusty, unbreakable Zen xTra which is still working fine after nearly 4 years of abuse. I just got fed up with having to carry a bag to put an mp3 player in

I just hope the V+ lasts as long and sounds as good.

Aha, my first question...

I wanted to up the firmware version on my V+ to get rid of the Euro volume restrictions. My system info says that my version is 1.21.01e but the creative site has Creative ZEN V Plus Firmware 1.11.01 as the latest version.

Having said all that, when I click on the downloaded file I'm told my player is not connected (it is, honest!).

Any pointers?

Can you transfer media to your V+? If so, it's being recognized by your PC, which leads me to think the problem is some "lock" preventing you from switching from EU to US versions of the firmwares. I'm not sure, though.

First think I would try is switching to another computer. Plug the player; if it connects successfully, try running the firmware upgrade again.

Yup, both WMP and the Creative stuff can read & write to the device.

Oh well, I'll just jam my earphones in a bit further while I'm on the tube in the mornings

edit: I'll try the other pc tomorrow, left my usb lead at work *sigh*

I just attempted to upgrade the firmware, and I got the same response, that the device was not connected. I know it's connected, as I can access it under My Computer, and I have already transfered a bunch of music to it. I'm in the US, so it's not just an EU issue. Oh well, it's working fine for now, so no big deal yet.

I just checked my current firmware, and it's 1.20 vs. the 1.11 available for download. Maybe this is why it won't work. I'm guessing I probably want to keep the 1.20 version...

Before downgrading the firmware, try connecting your Zen V / V+ to another PC or laptop.
