EDITED:
In the specs on BB's website. The View is a "HDD" based player. LOL
BB is slow as always.

A guy on the official Sansa View forum says he has it, he also say he synced a full season of Lost without the video splitting up into parts, sounds promising.

Hey guys, new to the forum. I just picked a 8GB view from Best buy. They had the 8GB for $150 and the 16GB for $200. I grabbed the 8GB. Let me know if you have any questions or want pictures of anything.

Great site, the reviews helped alot while figuring out which mp3 player I wanted to get.

I'm really interested in knowing if it handles audiobbooks properly.

I currently have an iRiver IMP-400 on which I listen to my audiobooks. I split these into 5 minute chunks so I can easily go back and forth if necessary. (This is just a personal preference).
  1. When I power off (or even once when I had to replace the batteries) when I power back on, the unit returns to the correct place and resumes playing where it left off. When it finishes with that "chunk" it then moves on to the next file in the playlist.
  2. When I change to the FM radio and then back to the audiobook, it does the same as in 1 above, e.g. resumes from where it left off.
Does the View have the same functionailty? Specifically:
  • Resume at the correct point and carry on through the playlist after having
    1. been turned off,
    2. connected to the computer for a recharge or to have another playlist downloaded or
    3. gone to the FM function and then back to the audiobook/playlst again.
These are critical points for me - fundamentally, does it resume where it left off at all times?

Thanks in advance

Hey man, I dont have any audio books to test at the moment but i'm gonna try this audible.com free trial that came with it. Ill work on that now, i'll try to get you the answers as soon as possible. If Sansa is Fun has audio books maybe he could answer your questions before I can but I will work on it.

1. Yes it has FM recording.
2. No it does break up the clip! Its stays as 1 file now, woot!
3. And no, BB did not have one on display. They didnt have displays for any of the newer models I ended up spotting in the locked cabinets under the kiosk. There was nothing even about the View at the kiosk so I asked the guy and he was clueless and said he thinks it comes out tomorrow. I got him to check out every mp3 player in each of the cabinets until we finally found a Samsung T10 and the Sansa View which were the 2 players I could not decide on. I decided on the sansa because of the 8GB it has compared to the T10 4GB for the same price so was a no brainer. They also had the 16GB in stock as well for the MSRP.

Yup, confirmed. Twice, heh.

Anyway, my opinions are cross-posted at dapreview and sansa's forums. And in the thread above...

The view has an added option when you go back to the main menu when something is playing (music or radio) or when you turn the player back on.

While playing: The icon is a green play icon laid on top of the player. It is labeled Now Playing.

Turning Player back on: The Icon is a a orange back arrow laid on top of the player. It is labeled Last Played.

The options do as they are labeled.

Not sure. Its in a slip case and I haven't scratched anything yet. So I guess its the same as the e200 (never seriously scratched that one)

It did not seem like it would scratch easy to me. It had a few chances to be scratched today when I had it with me all day but it didnt. I went and bought a case for it today at Best Buy. I wasn't actually expecting them to have View case out there already but alas, they did, was DLO brand I think. Came with a belt clip, case and armband for $29.99 and its very nice quality.
