The player must have a reserved memory zone, because the volume capacity is lower than 2 GB in my case. That must be the rom zone.

The available capacity is never the one of memory capacity because of system files that the player needs to run. That's the case on any mp3-player
But that is not normal that the player keeps the firmware version in memory once formated. And that is rather worrying insofar as if you have one day a big problem and want your player totally clean you can't....

In this case, you can format the player without change the file system (FAT). When you power on, the structure is created again. I did it....

I tried this modded firmware....it did indeed turn my T10 into UMS....however now when I turn on my T10 is says "Please Upgrade RSC File" and it will not let me do anything with it.....it just stays at that Please Upgrade screen!
Luckily I can still explore it via UMS....I can read and write to it....but I can't use it now??? I did copy both the .ROM and .RSC into the root......so.....not sure what's going on... BTW...I'm in America and have the T10JAB/XAA I tried using the Samsung Media Studio to upgrade the firmware and it ran through as if everything was successful.....but it didn't change anything. I can't get back to the original firmware either.....so I'm stuck with a $150 4gb usb stick! HELP ![]()

Just try loading the official Corean firmware on it, and reboot it. The firmware it recognizes now is "T10" and not "T10J" anymore.

My biggest reason for wanting UMS is because I use Linux and I hate proprietary.
So...I just tried it with Linux (Ubuntu 7.10 to be exact) and it works!!! YAY!!! The only problem is that even though Ubuntu recognizes it right away it takes literally 70 seconds before it becomes available....now I'm not complaining here that doesn't bother me at all I'm just stoked that it is all working....and so far it is indeed working....just wanted to tell my experience. Rush: I can confirm that I am using the Korean 1.55 and I do indeed have UMS! Plus it's the latest so it says I have Bluetooth file transfer...although I haven't tried it yet....I am looking forward to checking that out...soon. A big thanks goes to.....fde and robind! WOOO WHOOOOO I'm actually not sure if I needed robinds hack in order to put the korean on but that's the route I took so that's all I know. I'll be keeping up with this to hear others stories! |

I've installed the hacked firmware on my T10. And it also seems to work without the use of the Korean firmware. Thanks very much for the hacked firmware, UMS is much better than MTP for me. Seems to be quicker too, in fact.

And me too
![]() Some results with my hacked firmware try: - OGG files does not work when I copy them directly only when I use the Samsung Media Studio (Like before with Gnomad2 and libmtp on Linux) - *.avi files does not play, you have to rename them to *.svi (Like the Samsung Media Studio does) All in all big thanks for you hack!! foxx |

hmm... I simply used Avidemux, used the "Auto Template" for iPod Nano, Changed the Video Codec to "MPEG4-ASP (xvid)", the audio codec to "MP3 (lame)" and the container format to "AVI".
It worked perfectly with Flash and MPG Videos and the MTP version was able to play the .avi files and now renaming was enought. I think I will post this Tutorial in my Blog and in the Ubuntuforums Thread ![]() EDIT: In the tutorial is also written “That's just hilarious! Here's the fact: it's just a simple AVI, with a few restrictions.". I will try that I think the tutorial in this howto is bether becouse the files resulting on my avidemux-convertion were bigger than the (Youtube) original. foxx |
