Default Sansa 8gb microSD hack?

Hello,
I was curious if there was any hacks/tricks out there to let you use bigger microSD cards then 2gb (or whatever the max is) if so how reliable are they and how high can you go (GB wise)?

Thanks,
Kamron

Yes, rockox is stable, and the difference between SDHC and Sd are BIG, the way it stores data is different, and 32GB SDHC cards are planned too

There IS 32 GB but for the price your better of getting a player with a higher capacity

Currently, 6GB is available and 8GB has been announced for near term release. 32GB is the theoretical maximum for the sdhc format.

I don't know what the 8gb will cost, because they have yet to be released. The 6gb ones are going for around $70 on Amazon.

AFAIR PortaPlayer's SoC only supports up to 16GB of memory...
That means players internal memory AND microSD COMBINED.
Hopefully I'm wrong...

Ummm, I've seen this stated before, but, I run the newest Rockbox on my e280, it is great, but, I have a 4gb SDHC card, which DOES NOT work... EVEN WITH Rockbox... Am I missing some further trick???

Cool Does it read MicroSDHC?

Would someone please confirm this for me?
I understand from reading this thread that the e200 series will support MicroSDHC cards (if running Rockbox). Is this correct? Do these HC cards use identical reader hardware as the standard MicroSD ?

I asked Sandisk if the e200s were going to support reading their 4GB MicroSD (which they released) but they said for now it does not and they would not comment on whether there will be firmware release to allow for higher capacity MicroSD cards.

If Rockbox allows my e280 to read 8GB MicroSDHC cards then I'll get one of these cards. I already use Rockbox, but I'd never heard of MicroSDHC nor did I know Rockbox supported higher capacity cards.

Please confirm.

With thanks,

Jonathan

Mysticfusion, yes, Rockbox will let you use microSDHC cards. You just need to find a way to transfer data to the cards since the OF can not read the cards.

8GB cards are somewhat expensive at the time though.

If you really don't want to spend money, you could temporarily copy files into your sansa, and when you boot into rockbox, go to Files, highlight a file, hold the center button until you see a context menu, press copy, go to <microsd1>,hold the center button again until you see the context menu, press paste, and WALAH!, you copied a file into ur MicroSDHC!

If you will spend some cash, then go out to a retailer store and buy a MicroSDHC card reader. I just use my laptop cause I have a integrated card reader that supports SDHC cards (I use an adapter). You can also get MicroSDHC reader at sandisk.com

Thanks for the reply.
8GB cards have come down a lot in price now... so I think me will be getting one, along with some sort of USB reader for the computer.

Cheers,
Jonathan

if your getting a card try to get an 8GB (class 6) microSDHC card. I got one (with a reader) for Christmas and noticed a big difference even over the class 4 card I had, so much so that I'll never go back to a slower card especially when it comes to using these cards with audio or video.

If you don't already know these cards are speed rated. The number (inside a 3/4 circle) in the upper right corner identifies the class of the card. The higher the number the faster the card. A tad more expensive than slower cards but worth it IMO.
