Default Performence of the Zen

Has any one have any major issues with the Zen. Some user reviewers on CNet are claiming "random freezes", and someone here said something about getting a white screen. I kinda worried. Please bring up any major issues with the Zen.

thanx

Since the Zen is relatively new to the market, having issues with freezing is more or less expected. I don't have experience with this particular model, but I had a Zen Micro, and have a Zen Vision:M and a Zen V Plus, and I have rarely had issues like that with those players.

No reason to worry, Creative stands behind their products and rest assured they’ll address any major issues with firmware releases. If you look at any player, you’ll always find something you may not like about it, but don’t let a negative post sway your opinion. You could always look at the D2

I've demoed the Zen at 4 different locations and unfortunately, I've had them freeze at LEAST once at every store! Each time it froze, I was using my own SD Card to listen to music. This only seemed to happen when I was quickly jumping from menu to menu. If you get the opportunity to try one out in a store, be sure to bring a staple for the reset hole!

Here are a few more SD Card annoyances:
  • If you're listening to music from the SD card, it will automatically stop playing every time you leave the Memory Card menu. This is really frustrating when trying to make a simple EQ adjustment; Worse yet, there's no quick way to resume your last position -- You have to renavigate to the last song starting from the Memory Card menu!
  • Photos cannot be rotated if they are viewed from the SD card.
  • The ever so popular hide my porn Hide Protected Files feature does not work with media that is placed on the SD Card.
To be fair, these issues may have already been addressed in Creative's recent Zen firmware.

some updates. Creative released a New Zen firmware a while ago (like a week or so) and it should fix some stability issues. startup speed as been dramatically improved and i think menu speed was improved
"Added Features or Enhancements:

* Adds Thai language support
* Improves startup speed

Fixes:

* Improves video playback performance
* Improves the power adapter charging process
* Ensures the alarm is working even if your player is turned off
...video playback is altered in the following ways...
...1. it boots the video instantaneously...
...2.the screen no longer blacks out when fast forwading long periods...
.is music playback display...
...when the lettering was to big to fit on screen...
...it used to scroll, alternating between artist album and track name...
...like a ticking clock, it scrolled bit by bit...
...now it is smooth like a rolex, and about twice as fast...
(i didnt type it like that this is a copy/paste from the thread over at EPIZENTER)
...hey hes right...
...also if you turn off in the middle of a song...
...and then turn it back on...
...the song starts playing before its even completely booted...
Also, if anyone else had this problem, the album art for the first song you select wouldn't show up. That is fixed too.
When the player is turned on, even if the music was not playing, or you were in a different menu, the ZEN resumes to that position when you turn it back on"

all of of this was just copy/paste from there..
