i have a 60gb zen vision m and i was getting ready to put a new hacked firmware on with a different theme (something which i have done a fair few times) but this time i forgot to put it throught the 60gigabytifier so it was still a 30gb firmware anyway it uploaded ok but now all i can get to is the recovery mode/page/menu thingy. but just before it gets there i get a firmware error message that shows on the screen for a split secound
any one got any ideas or thoughts on how to fix it? also there is no mention of it in device manager and it wont even charge from the usb port or even turn on from it please please help really upset and desperate to get my player back thanks in advance Jason |

Within Recovery Mode, select "Reload Firmware" option. Do not plug in your player until indicated. Download and install the latest official firmware for your player.
If this doesn't help, you may need to run Disk Cleanup, and possibly have to reformat your player, then repeat the above step.

I'm starting to get a really bad feeling you might have bricked your player; however, since Zens are damn near impossible to brick in this fashion, there might still be hope.
Your player has to be on and in Recovery Mode for anything to happen, but try the steps here.

I cant do anything anymore tried everything emaginable
but ive contacted creative to say that i had accidentaly uploaded the wrong firmware (the one for the 30gb not the 60gb) zen and then he said it wasnt possible but knowing how there are alot of issues with wmp11 vista and creative products i said that this may have been why i was aloud to the agreed that there updater isnt a 100% with vista and said that it was possible. The gave me a link to the returns form and asked me to send it back to them and also to put in the notes box "ask to have the firmware reloaded on to this unit for you. " Very helpful guy fast replys and a good service. I thought about what they might find on there to do with hacked fonts and so on but ive selected reload the firmware so it should be gone right? Thanks alot Zen Chick youve been a great help Jason Russell |

Hmm this is the first I've heard of this happening. I know someone stuck the ZVM 30GB firmware onto a Zen Vision, it booted and had no serious issues and was able to revert firmware no problem.

I don't know, I've never had to deal with Creative - yet. You might want to check out EpiZenter and ask for help there, they came up with the firmware tools that "bricked" your player, they might be able to de-brick it some how.

They're a big enough company that I doubt they'd spend any amount of time trying to figure out if you did this yourself. Of course they're in the right to deny you free service, but I doubt they will.

Well there has been another break, mcuelenaere has been able to run custom code on a ZVM:30GB. This is another big step towards having RockBox on our ZVMs.
Check out the new site for more information.

Hi, sorry for the newbish question, but with this mod, would I be able to change the font size? I use my ZVM almost exclusively connected to a TV, and would like to use a much smaller font. Thanks.

Yes, you can, and you can even use your own fonts if you know how to. With rockbox loaded, you can do almost anything.
Also, does this mean that it would eventually be possible to load rockbox on the new zen? |

Neat! I used the CreativeWizard to install Arial Narrow, so I can fit more characters horizontally. Is there a way to change the height so that I can get more lines on the screen when I scroll through my videos?

I do not believe there have been any mods for the layout yet, just custom font and custom themes.

You can download a font that is naturally smaller. Think there are some fonts called tinyfont or something which is pretty small. There's also a possibility for size change now that every part (i think) of the firmware has been successfully decrypted. We just need someone to find out excactly how the firmware works.
As mcuelenaere is working hard on the rockbox, i don't think it will happen too soon. I bought a domain name for my site btw, now it's www.pimpmyzen.com |
