Default Can 30GB Trim Use USB Host?
Is it a matter of firmware/cable or do 60GB trims have extra hardware that supports the host feature? I'm debating whether to keep my 30GB or not and if I keep it I want to know all of the things it can actually do.

It's hardware not software, only the 60GB has the potential to do it.

Darn. I may hunt down one of those and sell my 30GB one. Then mod it and live happily. If not, then new ZEN and hope it never breaks.
