It seem that you can only charge the A818 via a USB port on a full booted up computer. The exception being my pocket PC (Loox) that has USB hosting will charge the unit but obviously not recognize it.
I have tried USB chargers but they won't charge the unit. Does this mean that if I take the player on a long trip I need to carry a laptop to charge it ??!! Is there some way around this such as special charging units or have I missed something ? Thanks |

I am searching for a USB charger too. Lets hope someone can help us both.
There isn't a chance I am buying sony's charger for about $30. Someone else has an AC adapter to charge these mp3's that work and is cheap at the same time??

If you can find the old AC adapter for the A1000/1200/3000 on ebay, then it will be able to charge the old 808 and new 818.

This one should work, right?? One more thing, will it work with a Sansa e200 also?

Unfortunately that will not work, the charger has to be 5V at 800mA, the one you linked is 500mA.
the model number for the old charger is AC-S508U, so if sony still carries it might be at a cheaper price than the newer charger.

OK , thanks, seems that its best to buy the Sony Charger unless I can find some thing like the unit shown here, ( as mentioned by swamer)

Yup... btw I can't personally vouch it... I just found that it was recommended for use with the A818 in another forum and I thought I'd let you guys know. I don't yet own that or any USB chargers.
If anyone does try that or any others with the A810 series, please report back... I'm interested myself. |

Curious that also my Fujitsu Siemans Pocket PC (with USB hosting) will charge the unit, (maybe I should carry that as a charger )

Will this one work? It says that it uses 500 mA instead of 800 the other $40 charger uses. I also can't tell if this charger comes with a cord. |

The AC-U50AD AC Power Adapter does not come with a cable... you have to use the one that came with your S610/A810.

FWIW, the current iPod USB charger works with the Sony NWZ-S616F.

In europe this one should work
http://www.mp3-player.de/index.php?p...a32ab2180eb20a at least they clame that it does. The rated output is 5V at 1000mA.

I bought a 5V, 1000mA adapter with a USB port off eBay.co.uk and it appears to charge my Walkman OK (it also works with both my old Zen players). Cost me £3, which is quite a bargain it seems. If it performs to its stated spec (variation of 5%) it will be OK, since that same range is the official USB specification.

If the voltage is the same as the Sony charger then any charger will work. I think it is 5V
It also has to say 800mA or less.

I'm starting to look at many of the cheap iPod chargers that accept a USB input. The only problem is that most won't state how many mA they have. I'm afraid they may have a low amount, say 500, and charge as slow as USB does. I don't think that having it rated over 800 can do any damage can it? As long as the voltage is correct.

I am afraid that one rated over 800mA might do damage.

The rating on the adapter is the maximum current the adapter is able to put out, but the actual current drawn by the charging circuit is usually less than that. An 800mA 5V adapter will work as well as a 500mA 5V adapter if the charging circuit only draws 300mA.
Using an adapter with a higher current rating will not damage your Walkman if its charging circuit is in good working order. Lithium batteries have very narrow charging voltage and current tolerances so their charging circuits tend to be quite good (steady voltage etc). |

I'd like to get a NWZ-S618F to replace my sandisk sansa e200 and was wondering if the Griffin powerblock USB car and AC adapters I bought for the Sansa could be used for the Sony. The adapters have a USB port so it seems like I could simply plug the Sony USB cable into them, as long as the adapters have an output voltage that the Sony can handle.
The AC adapter is rated for 5V, 1000mA. I don't have the car adapter handy, but I would imagine its similar. Does anyone know if this would work? I don't want to overload the battery on the Sony, but I also don't want to rebuy something if what I have would work. Thanks for any help. |
