I can't talk about DRM'ed media since I'm not into music subscription services, but for non-protected audio files, MediaMonkey works great.

Sony does offer a program called "Media Manager for Walkman" that will allow you to send music files, pictures, and video clips to your player. There is a free version available from the Sony website, and it can be upgraded to a paid version that allows you to convert and upload videos in noncomptible formats into a format that can be used on the player. Unfortunately, I've not found a way to create playlists with the program.
