Default zen's now playing menu

i have a quick question. on the zen, when your looking at the now playing song. theres album art, then the first line is the song, then theres a blank line, then album name then artist. is there suppose to be a blank in between??

-------------title
--ALBUM----[blank space]
----ART----album
------------artist

something like that. whats the blank suppose to be?

I picked up my Zen, went to NOW PLAYING and sure enough, same thing. Interesting. I wonder if it's meant to be blank.

I got it, dragnandy! The blank line will show the rating you give the song! I was messing with a song and its rating since I heard you can rate on the fly and after I changed the rating, the rating appeared in that blank space! Tada! I love this device!

I don't know about others, but I can honestly say, I never really have. I do like the idea that you can play songs via DJ by high rating, so I might start rating my favorites just so I can tell the player to play the high rated songs as opposed to a playlist, which I usually create by genre. Does that make sense? I'm tired and it doesn't sound quite right!

I only rate 4 and 5 star songs. On my Itunes, it will create a playlist of the highest ranked songs. I thought this was a good feature.

I've never used rating for music neither for pictures. There's something like most played in DJ menu so rating isn't that necessary ...

I use star ratings.

I generally like to listen to all my music on shuffle mode, but will often play just 3,4 & 5 star songs in order to avoid some of the really dodgy album tracks, comedy/spoken tracks or Christmas songs!

Also, where a track appears on many albums (this happens a lot with Beatles songs), I only give one of them a star rating so that I don't get a bias toward those tracks.

Admittedly, I don't often do the ratings on the Zen - I use WMP to rate and create x-star playlists - but it's nice to have the option.

You could probably do the same by creating playlist. I think rating is the option most of us could live without. RDS in FM would be more useful I think.

i agree that its kind of useless for ratings. but id be extremely dissapointed if the zen DIDNT come with ratings if i ever do decide to use it. i mean, its a simple application and something like the zen should support it.

quick Q, is there any way to view like the lyrics on the track? i dont really use it, but if it can, i might but some on my songs.

There's no straight possibility to view lyrics on Zen. I even doubt there's any around way to do it.

Isn't lyric support built into ID3v2 Tags? This is something that I am surprised most manfactures of MP3 players haven't all been supporting by now. If the tag supports it, perhaps a firmware adjustment would be all that is needed to utilize it. I would enjoy this feature more so then ratings.

Yes, there is support for lyrics in ID3v2, but remember that Zen's chipset is capable to display text and even RDS from FM. Creative is just too lazy to implement these functions or they're just making some space for a new model. Zen WAV's firmware allows to display txt files, Zen V cannot do it although both are based on the same chipset.
I wouldn't be surprised if Zen Share (or whatever it's going to be called) will support bluetooth, RDS, TXT or even SD integration and will be based on the same chipset as Zen.

Along those line, that is all I was just trying to point out.
