Creative seemed to have left out any thought as to utilizing the SD cards contents while using the Zen.
Keep in mind Removable disk mode is is completely different than browsing the SD cards contents and turns the Zen into a card reader, so you can only use the Zen with a computer in this mode.

Hello.
Are you using the SD card in the Zen as a Removable Disk or are you inserting the SD card in another card reader?Moved to main SD card thread.

Anyone know if there are plans to have SD cards intergrated?
It's one of the only things holding me back from getting one. Used to a 30gb vision:m. Don't want to be stuck with half the storage on a newer model. |

I recently bought a 8MB Zen and a 16GB Patriot SDHC card to use in it. After inserting the card and powering on the Zen, I get the "Media not detected" message when trying to see the card's contents. The only way I can get the Zen to recognize the card is, without powering off, eject and reinsert the card. After that, as long as the power is on, I have no problems. But when I power off and on again, I get the same problem all over.
I have tried reformatting the SD card using Panasonic's SDFormatter program mentioned in an old post. But that didn't help. I also tried the various options in SDFormatter but that didn't seem to help either. I have an 8GB SD which works fine without having to eject and reinsert all the time, but I'd really like to get the 16GB to work without that hassle. Anyone have suggestions? |

After more research and experimentation, I seem to have figured out the problem with my Zen recognizing the Patriot 16GB SD card. The firmware on my Zen was 1.21.03. I noticed there were some cases in which the Zen recognized my 16GB SD card after powering it on and without ejecting and reinserting it. After having learned about the stand-by mode here: I did some experimentation that led me to conclude that when the player does a full startup (not coming out of stand-by) it recognizes the SD card. However, when it is powered-on and just comes out of stand-by mode, the SD card is not recognized. After this revelation, I tried downgrading my firmware to 1.03.04 and voila, it works fine. The odd thing, however, is that I still notice the player quickly comes on if it hasn’t been off for a while, thus behaving as if it still has the stand-by feature. It puzzles me to have what appears to be the stand-by feature, while using firmware version 1.03.04. Any thoughts about that are welcome. At any rate, it now works with my 16GB SD card, and hopefully, if anyone else has this problem with their SD card, they’ll benefit from this discovery. |

I am soooo disappointed. I bought the Zen 32 GB on (thank God ... I was thinking of the 16 and "expanding" it to 32 later) ... and I could really use a 64 or 80 GB player (that's what my Jukebox was before it finally died for the fourth time ... this time one channel seems to be gone).
At any rate, at first I assumed like most did that I'd pop a card in, and, BAM, same player, more storage. But not so. I can play stuff. I organize by artist and then album in a folder structure. It does recognize ID3 V1 tags, but I've had trouble with these "Chinese" looking characters showing up on the screen with some ID2 V2 tags. But after cleaning and just leaving the V1 tags, it displays them just fine while playing. It's not a total loss, since you can still play content ... but the fact that you can't pick up where you left off if you turn it off ... if it just did THAT I would be a LOT happier. Other than that, the only other problem I have with it is the screen visibility when its bright... but if I went back to my black and white LCD screen, it wouldn't show videos or photo albums. So... oh well. All I need is this thing I've forgotten... and thats to learn to live with what I've got. ;-) |

Quick Question: Would a microSD with an SD adapter work with the ZEN?

Dears,
I have a Creative Zen 4Gb. The thing is it should stay in an exhibition and play for the entire opening day. Although I have it from early 2009, I just noticed it would automatically shut down after 2 hours of video playback. Is there a way to make it stay alive for more that just 2 hours without being operated from time to time? Many thanks, Dan |

Is there a sleep or shutdown timer on the player? I know my Creatives had this so they would shutdown after a certain time. Unfortunately I do not have it with me to check the exact name and location
