Just got a 728 and it seems the only way to charge it is by connecting it to the computer. I have a USB wall charger but it doesn't seem to charge it (no battery charging animation). This charger definitely works because I use it on all my other players. Is anyone else experiencing this with the 720 or 820 series? Can Sony have actually made this so it has to be connected to the computer to charge??

Unbelievable. It looks like Sony's 'Annoying Features' department isn't going down without a fight.

I'll certainly admit this is a dumb/lame idea on their part, who leaves their PC awake for 3 unattended hours with electricity costs the way they are here in the States, but the 72x/82x are so wonderful overall in my opinion, it just a minor annoyance that I'm perfectly happy to overlook. I can certainly understand your position, though. Of course, if we were talking about an iPod, it would go down as the coolest feature ever. |

It seems both bizzare and retarded that they would drop the ability to charge from a wall charger, that's why i'm thinking maybe my unit is defective. Can someone else with a 720 or 820 series confirm this behavior? I know the manual says it has to be connected to a running computer but that's such a moronic brain dead thing to do I find it hard to believe it's not a defect in my unit without more proof.

its not defective, its just bad or odd design. not all players are compatible with simple usb adaptor chargers. i guess some just expect to see a pc before they charge. usb 5v alone isn't enough
