Am considering buying one of these players, and have downloaded the user manuals for a closer look. Both of them say this:
"Some computers that already have Windows Media Player 10 installed may encounter file limitation (AAC, video files, etc.) that can be transferred by dragging and dropping. If you install Windows Media Player 11 ... you can solve this problem, then you can transfer by dragging and dropping again...." This sounds very odd to me. Assuming I'm not being dense, and dragging and dropping is done using Windows Explorer, how does which version you have of WMP (which I don't want to bother updating since I never use it) affect anything? If, in the passage above, you substitute "synching" for "dragging and dropping" then I'd understand. Any owners/anyone at all have any info on this? Thanks. |

My understanding is that the reason you need to have WMP 11 installed for dragging-and-dropping is that when you install it it also installs an MTP component that is needed to allow you to transfer files via the drag-and-drop method. This component is not part of WMP 10.
If you go the Software Forum and select the "MTP vs. UMS <-- the great debate" thread you can get more in-depth information on this topic. I hope this helps. |

Thanks, I'll have a look at that thread.
Though I have a MP3 player at the moment which works just fine with MTP, and did so straight out of the box. The player doesn't support AAC, though. I might just stick with LAME anyway!
