OK, so people have had the Pilot for some time now and have their favorite converter programs and settings.
What settings (not program) seem to work best without taxing the processor and causing dropouts and sync issues. Please give your favorite audio/video bitrate, frame rate and codec, and anything else that may be important. There are so many common settings that simply refuse to play on the Pilot. It's maddening. Also, some presets may work but may not be optimal and lock you to a single program. I'm downloading youtube videos and trying programs that will download and convert in one step but I'm looking for general output settings that are known to play. I also want to convert higher quality videos for playback on the Pilot, which is why I want to talk about specific output settings instead of programs here. Thanks, Tim |

...i download the youtube video with http://www.downloadyoutubevideos.com/
then i put it on pazera free flv to avi converter http://www.download.com/Pazera-Free-...-10786669.html i use the regular settings on the Pazera converter...i think i use the xvid codec thing, and if that does work, i use the wmv codec. then i just use the regular Pilot settings on the MediaConverter that came with the Pilot |

http://iriverter.sourceforge.net/download.shtml
I have used this for hundreds of videos. Set to the Creative Zen profile 320x240 and bitrates of around 500 for video and 128 for audio, this is easy and sure. I can't recall it ever having a problem with a good input video, and It is easy and pretty fast depending on your computer's speed. |

I've been trying to find a youtube downloader that will convert for the Pilot. I tried "4U" from http://www.download-youtube-video.net/ but every setting I've tried fails to play on the Pilot. Maybe someone else can get it to work. Seems like iriverter is good for everything else. Tim |

I use mencoder from the command line. The following settings produce perfect conversions with no dropouts or freezes.
Code:
mencoder INPUT_FILE -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=512:max_bframes=0 -vf-add scale=320:-2,expand=320:240 -oac mp3lame -lameopts mode=0:cbr:br=128 -vf-add harddup -ofps 29.97 -srate 44100 -o OUTPUT_FILE.avi |

i would go to this website and download the "free flv converter" http://www.koyotesoft.com/indexEn.html. then I use the software that came with the insignia and convert them over and it seems to work okay.
