Ditto, Bobby.

My husband still doesn't know what I paid for my Zen and I will never tell him!

$269.99 for a 32GB Zen.... that is outstanding! Only about a $100 more than the 16GB Zen.

Buy.com has some good deals on the 2/4GB Zens with Free Shipping:

2GB Zen - $64.99
4GB Zen - $79.99

Even Walgreens has a good deal on the 8GB Zen:

8GB Zen - $99.99

Walgreens have been selling Creative players for a while now, so that isn't much of a surprise compared to what they are selling them for. If you check out their website, you will see they carry a variety of mp3 players (Apple, Microsoft, Creative, etc.).

The zen isn't just flash memory. Flash memory is just one component of the player. One could get a 16 gig Zen plus a 16 gig SD card for much less than the 32 gig. I know you will tell me that a 16 gig plus a 16 gig card is not the same thing as the 32 gig player. Paying $105 more for just 16 gigs of flash memory(the difference between the 32 gig and 16 gig at the lowest price for each) still seems like too much.

Where the Zen is concerned, the use of SD/SDHC cards for those who desire proper card/library integration in an external storage medium, is not the least bit desirable, and buying a high capacity unit/Zen is the only thing that truly makes sense.

Personally, I'd much rather get a better designed/engineered/sounding DAP unit from some other company... regardless of price.

Looks like the buy.com prices with free shipping on the 2GB and 4GB are no more. They went back up.

Hmmmm....... 32GB for $202.50....?????

I just picked up a 16 GB for $42 shipped off of eBay. Actually the picture of the box it was in showed it to be a 8 gb model, which is what I thought it was paying for. It was a no return item that supposably had a firmware problem. There wasn't a scratch on it! It booted up into a bootstrap mode, so I used the creative tools to put in the latest firmware. It came alive right away. See what pure thoughts and clean living will get you guys!, (well, in my case I suppose it was only dumb luck...).

I teach at a school as a substitute. It's end of the year and the kids started yapping about which MP3 player was the best for a grad gift.
The Source has been selling the Zen 4GB for 64$ in our area too as some sort of sales promotion for Mothers and Fathers day, which completely bewilders me.
They started debating over the Sansa, over Ipod, and most of them never even heard of Creative. I brought in mine and showed them what it could do. Told them about the ITunes interface, the problem with Apple software and songs, and whatnot.
I converted 8 die hard apple fans right on the spot. And 23 more students went out and bought Creatives. It helps that the stores here are also selling off the Creative desktop speakers too. I bought these tiny desktop ones to go with my laptop, wasn't expecting much, and only for 10$, and they're better than some of the surround sound speakers I've heard. Mother's since confiscated them.

Wow, that's great. Maybe Creative should begin paying you as a sales rep . When you start really comparing, especially to those iPod fans, most I've seen become fascinated instantly at the differences (improvements). Funny thing is..... most of the time it can be with any other kind of DAP. It is priceless to see the realization in the eyes of iPod fans when they are see that there is a world out there that doesn't include iPods.

Good luck with the teaching and enjoy the summer break!

The iPods started selling solely because of the lithium battery as far as I can remember, though the drive size could play into that factor. Now that it's standard with everything else though, and most average people can cut it on a 2GB player because they're just far to busy to actually use it, the Apples are jumping ship.
And hey, the local Source store manager did find out that I referred them all there, I got free headphones.

DRM, iTunes, and lack of features I believe play a large part as to why iPod fans make the conversion when seeing a "real" DAP..... but anyway, back on topic...

The Creative Labs online store has a refurbished 4GB for $64.99. You can also double the memory and get a 8GB (what I recently bought) for $80-something. I have had no problems (cosmetic or hardware) with any of my factory-refurbished players.
