Maybe a firmware issue or loose connector. Have you tried booting into Recovery Mode and see if the controls work fine? If you want to open it up to check the connector, you can use these for help:

Here is the ABI disassembly guide.
Here is a video of a disassembly.

So the controls work correctly in Recovery Mode? If so, then it may very well be a firmware issue and reloading the firmware may help. See, the firmware resides on the hard drive and the Recovery Mode resides on a ROM chip, so they operate independently of each other.

The controls work correctly in Recovery Mode? Have you been able to check for a loose connection or not being seated correctly?

Since the touchpad works for scrolling, it is not a touchpad or hardware issue, since all the touchpad does is sense finger pressure and report coordinates back to the processor. This is definitely a firmware issue.

It would be really helpful to know if this problem also exists in Recovery Mode.

Yeah, it can be a problem with the mainboard, the controls, or even the connection. Have you maybe had a chance to open the ZVM up and check the connector?

I would at least try reseating it. If it doesn't work, it appears as though you needs to replacement parts. You can try watching EBay for some As-Is ZVM's to use the touchpad (or even the mainboard) out of. Good luck!

Resetting did nothing, got into recovery mode, could scroll but no clicking function, checked the connections they look ok. Any thing I can do before this thing goes flying out my window?

Then I would say your ZVM has some more serious issues with its hardware. Like what I mentioned above, EBay may be your best bet for do-it-yourself parts. Otherwise sending it to Creative may be another option.

Replacing either the touchpad/case or mainboard; which ever resolves the issue.
