Hello zero91192. Welcome to ABI.

Perhaps you should read some more. There are posts just about every other day regarding ZVM's that seem to be stuck on the logo screen.

As long as you don't have a failed/failing hard drive, severely corrupt file system, and you haven't Formatted the ZVM, your files should still be on there.

Since you have already done a Reset, try to boot the ZVM into Recovery Mode. Getting into Recovery Mode (and it functioning correctly within) should help with verifying that the mainboard is still working correctly (for the most part) and help with determining if the hard drive is having issues. Once in Recovery Mode, try a Cleanup. This will repair any internal Database problem the ZVM may be having. If you find that a Cleanup either fails or doesn't help with the boot problem, you can also try reloading the firmware.

Before you do (and with the ZVM booted into Recovery Mode), connect the ZVM to the computer and make sure you have a good connection. Check Device Manager to verify that the driver is installed and loading without error. The ZVM should be listed under Portable Devices. If you have no error on the driver, open up My Computer and make sure you see the ZVM as a Portable Device. You can also try opening WMP (WMP10 or WMP11) to see if it detects the Zen. Having all of the Creative software uninstalled will help with this process since it is known to cause detection problems with the Zen. This would also be a good time to make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware file from Creative's website. It is best to have this ready to go before you start the next process below.

Once you have verified that you have a good connection, in Recovery Mode select the Reload Firmware option. This will erase the currently installed firmware and then prompt you to connect the ZVM to the computer to execute the new firmware file. Executing the firmware file you downloaded will install a fresh copy of the firmware on the ZVM. If you get an error while doing so, this will further verify (along with Cleanup failing earlier) that you may be having a hard drive issue (since the firmware is stored on the hard drive). If the firmware installation goes without error, try to reboot the ZVM to see if it now gets past the logo screen when booting.

Good luck!

ok im back and just confused i try the recover mode and it doesn't work.
and now when i try to turn it on it just flashs the top light five times then nothing when i plug it into the usb it just flashes at the top maybe around 20 mins later the screen turns on and just says "CreAtive" for about 5 mins then the screen shut off again.

ive uninstalled the creative explorer and everthing with it, i checked my computer to see if it detected it, and i also checked WMP to see if i could sync it. but no luck at all i know the batteries arent dead because i let it charge around 4 hours. if all else fails ill open it up.

Question if i have the harddrive can i take it to like bestbuy or circutcity to get all my stuff out of it (i love my music it would be a big pain in the ass to get it all back though searchs and downloads)

anymore help would be awesome BobbyRS was a huge help i didnt even know to try even half of those things

hopefully someones got something to help me out
and if it works im getting a 32Gb zen and transfering all my stuff
but thats if it survives

Recovery Mode will work. It is just a matter of doing the procedure correctly.....and not having a depleted battery.

It sounds like you just have a depleted battery. Leave it plugged in for about a day or so (Yes, that long when connected to USB). 4 hours on a USB port with a depleted battery in a device that won't power can take many hours. Using an AC adapter here would be best and cut out much of the time.

No, that won't work. Besides the fact that the Best Buys techs are far from Data Recovery Specialists, lol, the ZVM has a unique file system. Check here for more info.

No problem.

ok yea i think my zen is dead

i charged it for a full day i even let it charge over night

but no change what so ever i just try to turn it on and its just the blue light that flashed at the top five times then nothing.
and when i leave it on the adapter the creative logo shows up and and shuts off after 5 mins

i think my battery maybe the problem because it doesnt show me any error message and yes i have been trying the recovery mode (press reset button and hold then switch the power switch to the left then release the reset button)

and other suggestions would be fine im here with open ears....er...eyes

your probably sick of me by now but i have to make sure that i try everything be for i buy something else.

It sounds very possible that you have a bad battery that will no longer hold a charge. I would consider replacing. These should help:

Here is the ABI disassembly guide.
Here is a video of a disassembly.
Here are a few places to get a battery.

I'm back

i bought a new battery the one u suggested to me 17 buck + S&H = nice deal

i got it yesterday and charged it over night though usb.
when i plugged it in it the blue light at the top flashed nothing else, this morning nothing changed its still flashed at the top. the website said at least
6 hours of charging minimum i charged it for 13 hours.

i think it got worse it used to show the creative word one the screen ever 20 minutes now all it does is flash the blue light i reinstalled zen explorer an there's no detection, i also tried to detect it without out the zen explorer before i reinstalled it, try windows media play also.

when i try to turn it on it flashes the blue light at the top 5 times then no light at all. I've try the recovery mode but it wont turn on. i downloaded the MP3 Recover tool from creative.com but my player is not detected.

Any suggestions would be fine please and thanks you

EDIT: i just read "Zen Vision:M Not Responding SOLUTION! to No Charge, Device Not Connected or Recognize"
and there was no detection at the device manager so I'm leaving it plugged in one more day.

It is possible that you got a dead or severely depleted battery. It will depend on when the replacement battery was manufactured and how long it has been sitting, not used. You could also try leaving it plugged in for a few days to see if it begins holding a charge or eventually turns on, but I would really consider just asking for a replacement to test another before beginning to question other possible causes like the mainboard (charging circuit...).

Keep in mind, the ZVM will not be detected by the computer, let alone software, unless it can power on.

since the new battery did nothing what so ever i decide to switch back to my old one and OMG the creative logo showed up it was awesome it didn't do anything after that but it still better than it not doing anything at all.
i think my problem is that my computer is not detecting it so that means that it wont charge the question is, if i buy a wall charger and i guaranteed that my player will then charge i read the detection thread that was in the sticky section and Chris said that even thou the blue light is flashing it doesn't mean that its charging. then today u wrote that my computer wont detect my zen unless its powered up, so should buy the charger or not ?

Again, if the ZVM won't power up, it will not get detected by the computer, so no detection by Windows or Device Manager. The issue you may be having is that the new battery is also pretty depleted (along with the old one) and charging from a USB port when the ZVM won't power on can take an extremely long time due to the USB host only allowing for a 100mA current for charging until enumeration (driver loads without error) is complete; which it then will only up the current to 500mA.

From my earlier post:

The reason being for this is because when charging with the AC adapter in the AC port, you bypass this charging limitation from USB and the AC adapter can charge the ZVM with a much higher current. Many times, this higher charge current, along with charging much faster, is also enough to "wake-up" a "sleeping" battery (one that is over-discharged).

However, also don't rule out the possibility that you may have a mainboard issue that could be the cause of your problem as well (bad charging circuit, corrupt ROM (bootloader)....

OK this is just an update i left it charge all day and the creative logo has been going on and off more and more often, it turned on every hour an a half and has reduce its time by 3 minutes every time it appears and its down to every 45 minutes.

BobbyRS i wasn't wrong you are a GOD when it comes to the zen.
lets just hope that one its time is reduced to a certain point it will have enough power to go passed the creative logo and finally show me the word I've been dying to see "ZEN" lol.
i still have my old battery install it seems that its less depleted then the brand new one that i bought, the new one was so depleted that the creative logo wouldn't even show up after a full day.
well what can i expect I'm using usb

Also i found out why my zen went dead, my father bought a crappy charger/car player adapter and he said he switch the setting to 12v

and that's why hes the one buying my new 32Gb Zen

Whoa, that is wrong. Would have been nice to know that a long time ago. Would have saved you a lot of time.

yea i went pretty much nuts when i tried to turn on my zen.

the weird thing is when i ask him how he did i he say he stuck the charging end in the head phone jack.

so 1. that fried everything
2. that fried my battery
3. that fried the thingy that controls that charging
4.OMG my dads an IDIOT!!! ( i asked him for the manual for the charger thingy he said he throw it away when he opened the package!!).....

It would be nice if you had an AC charger to use instead.

Ouch! Yeah, most likely something is "fried". Perhaps the charging circuit, SMD fuse.... Besides not having a good charged battery for booting, that could explain why it also seems to fail during boot up; perhaps a hardware failure during the boot-up process detected.

"Creative" logo - indicates the full boot-up process.
"Zen" logo - indicates loading of the firmware.

I would go easy on him. After all, he is buying you a new 32GB Zen.
