It says 2,000 songs and I've only been able to fit 784 on mine but it appears to have used up most of the available memory.
When the memory is tight it compresses the song sizes - how do I compress ALL of them to fit another 700 or 800 songs? Thanks! |

The Zen itself will not compress any of the files. The compression takes place during the creation of the audio files; particularly the bitrate used during creation. The 2,000 song claim is most likely due to the Zen V Plus being an 8GB model and having the MP3 files encoded at 128 kbs. In general, the higher kbs (kilobytes per second), the less compression is used resulting in a larger file size MP3, but with much better sounding audio quality. The lower the kbs, the more compression is used resulting in a smaller size MP3 with a much degraded sounding audio quality. More here.

You can also purchase a higher capacity model, like the 16GB version.

I also want to add that the suggested capacity is usually stated at 4 minutes per song. Longer songs will also lead to a lower storage.

Yes, thank you. Specifically from their site:
