Someone had mentioned about recording with the Insignia. I found this and thought I'd start a thread so you could find the answer easier.

$70?? Better be one hell of a mic...
Unfortunately, this particular mic wouldn't work with the Pilot--it needs to be powered. There are tons on ebay for $10-$20 |

Wow, for $70.00 I’d rather use my built in mic

Too bad the pilot doesn't have one

Wow, that mic is awfully expensive and looks horrible. I'm still confused about how to record voice on the pilot. Maybe posting a thread about it is better.

So that brings the price up $140... Somehow it just doesn't seem right connecting that to a $100 player...

Obviously mics like this have a specificic audience. I paid about $300 for my powered binaural mics. A $20 eBay mic will work fine for recording lectures where fidelity isn't a requirement but doesn't compare at all with a professional grade mic for recording music.
Thanks for the link OP - this setup looks interesting. The fact that the battery box is made to look like a pager is really an awesome idea for stealth recording. As it stands I have to stash my battery box on my crotch o_O |

Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "speak into the mic
