Wow, I washed my Zen in the washing machine and it still works!

It's hard to believe my Zen spent all that time in the water and it still works. I get that "Rebuilding Library" message but otherwise it plays music and the LED looks fine.

The one drawback. It only works while plugged into my wall charger. Which kind of defeats the purpose of a portable MP3 player. It won't operate on battery power.

So is that it for my battery? Any suggestions?

Hopefully you gave the player adequate drying time … Battery is most likely dead or fried, why not replace it? You can watch instructions on YouTube here and google to order new battery, they’re readily available.

I've seen that with cell phones before. The battery got wet and it was toast. You my friend got lucky

It dried off at least a day before I tried using it so I think I'm okay. And that's only because after my wife found it in the washing machine she placed it on my dresser where it sat for a while before I tried using it.

Where can I get a replacement battery? How much do they cost?

Opening it up is easier than you may think. Here is a video on how to open the Zen V. Good luck.

Yeah, hopefully it's all dried out. Just be careful when messing around inside it.

I wouldn't mess around inside at all unless it was just to open it up to let it dry out faster.

Update - I bought a new battery on ebay for $19.44 shipped and my Zen is now working just fine once again. Considering this thing spent at least 30 minutes in the washing machine I find that absolutely amazing. And my new battery has a bit more capacity than the old one to boot!

Warning to anyone considering changing out your battery. You will need a soldering iron and be able to do some detail circuit board work. If you've never used a soldering iron before, I wouldn't try it.
