my spinn looks like it is going to crash. the spinningwheel doesnt respond most of the time, touchscreen doesn't work, and when I can scroll through the menu, it is repeating the scrolling like a thousand times. it's just not responsive anymore.

so, I prefer the firmware 2.1 hehe

I don't know if downgrading is even possible. Certainly not through the iRiver tools. You can try to download this file: http://www.iriverplus.com/tools/UMS/..._ENG_UM_OK.ZIP (English 2.10 firmware) and do a manual update by placing the hex file in the root of the device. This might not be without risks though, according to some reports.

what are the new features of ver 2.31 (just released recently)? also, why is it my DMB is not working (I'm a foreigner working in Korea). I bought my SPINN with an older version of its FW with DMB working but when it was updated to ver 2.30, it wasn't working anymore.

It seems that with the new firmware the choice of UMS or MTP is gone? I manage my spinn with WMP and with 2.3 I need to restore the database on the spinn after synchronization for it to recognise all tracks and tags. And playlist files aren't recognised at all. Any ideas?

So, I am a newbie here and just recieved a spinn. I have tried BOTH iriver plus 3 and Iriver Updater and neither works to upgrade firmware. I download the Hex file to put in the root folder. I simply add it to the system file right???? Nothing happens.. Is this the right place to put it? PLEASE HELP

You have to put the HEX file in the root directory, not any specific folder. Be sure to have the SPINN fully charged, then drag the file to its root directory, safely remove the SPINN and disconnect it from your PC. The update should then start.

If that doesn't work try the firmware updater again, it works if you put the SPINN in MTP mode (see previous page in this thread)

When I plug in the spinn the folders I see are System and so forth. Is the Root the System folder?? I have checked every folder and nothing with root, just system.

The root directory is the top-most directory in the folder hierarchy. It is not a folder named "root" as I now understand you are thinking. Just place the file right on the device, not any of its sub folders. So if you are on Windows and the SPINN is mounted with the drive letter E then just copy the file to E:\ for example.

I bought a spinn this week. Today I succeeded in upgrading the firmware to 2.10 version using Iriver Firmware Updater. Iriver Plus 3 displayed the well-known "network error".

So, who had problems upgrading to 2.3 or 2.31 and what method did use?

Likely it won't. Support for the SPINN has ended as far as I know
