Default Do the NWZ-A728B's have specific SN's on them?

I wanted to swap mine at BestBuy because it has got to were the buttons stick, or to the point when I touch the back button or any button the player does not respond. So I figured I would swap it for a new one, but the guys at Best Buy said I could not since each player had its own serial number assigned. Is this true?

It does have it's own serial number for each player, but if it's faulty you should be able to exchange it. That is, unless it's past the exchange period (30 days), or you didn't get a warranty, which you always should w/electronics. I should know, I had a defective Sony S618 & it went haywire, I ate it!!!

Well at this point it is worth a try. But it sounds like your issue is more hardware the software related.

Yup, definitely sounds like a hardware prob. If you bought it w/a credit card, you still might be able to return it. Otherwise, go to SonyStyle.com and get service directly from them.

If you use a credit card you don't need a receipt. If you explain it to them they may be able to look up the transaction by your name. Sony may be able to help you under their warrantee coverage. I bought an A828 through Sony to get their accidental protection plan. BestBuy's protection plan has changed where they won't exchange them anymore, they take them and send them out for repair or replacement. Sony's plan is better than BestBuy's current protection plan; they both cost $50 for 2 years, but Sony's includes accidental coverage.
