Been listening to r20783 all day long - damn you, Rockbox! Don't think I can go back to my shabby, pathetic non-gapless players...
![]() (I've compiled my first Clip Rockbox port in December 2008, but now it's getting serious.)

Yes, plugins and the one's I've tried work fine, even while listening to music. I've only tried a few ... chessbox, chopper, jewels (a real pain without color) and spacerocks (asteroids). But the kids are really the ones playing them ... now we're off to play night kick ball with flash lights and daps to boot! Guess what I'll be using

Good to hear that Rockbox for the Clip has been coming along. From the Rockbox forum, it really sounded like things were becoming more stalled than progressing avidly towards a completion.
The last I had read, I thought that there was a time limit on the songs that Rockbox would play; and that it would only work on 1 (or was it 2?) gbs. Not the case? Any feel for when a "general consumption" version might be available? (Have compiled my own Rockbox in the past for my iRiver player; was being a bit more patient this time, including to avoid bricking issues that I had read about for the Clip.) |

Thanks, and the progress is great to hear!
Does Rockbox currently support more than 2gb on the Clip? (I know that this was an issue earlier.) Likewise, does using Rockbox on the Clip disable the ability to use DRM files with the original Clip firmware? |

Yes and I have no idea.

Thanks--had read about the DRM factor earlier on in the Sansa Rockbox thread (1 or a couple of devs reported that DRM had become disabled), but then nothing further. For those that have put the firmware on the Clip: is DRM still functional?

Important note: a warning just went up at the Rockbox site not to try the experimental builds on a greater than 4gb Sansa player, as this could brick the player. This would include the 8gb Clip. The post notes that a fix is do-able in the future, it's just not currently in place.
Update: As of at least 6/1/09, this issue appears to have been fixed. Last edited by Mikerman; 06-01-2009 at 09:29 PM. Reason: Update as of 6/1/09 |

Could you link me to that? I see nothing new on the usual Wiki pages:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaAMS http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaClip The 8GB Clips are all "v2" as I understand it, and don't have sound or memory access at the time anyways.

It's from the Rockbox new ports forum, Sansa thread:
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?...9973#msg149973. The thread tends to report the most up-to-date and developing information. I had forgotten that the Rockbox alpha software for the Clip is for the "v1" player architecture, though, and that the Clip's 8gb version all is a "v2" architecture, seemingly. |

Just saw, it's been over 6 months since this thread was started; still no issued Rockbox (or even beta) for the Clip.

We don't do beta (or alpha) releases ever, so no surprise there.

I know. I really was just expressing my sadness and a bit of surprise that a Clip stable version has not come out yet, when things were progressing, seemingly, so quickly early this year, due to the efforts of you and the other developers. (And I'm not trying to press matters ... I know that a Rockbox port is done when it is, that there are a myriad of issues, and that all doing the work are volunteers/aficionados.)

From the various Rockbox pages, it seems like Rockbox is pretty functional for the Clip, apart from recording. For those who have installed it, is it working pretty well?

I've installed it a few times on my silver 4GB, most recently tried a couple weeks ago. Sometimes it plays, sometimes it doesn't. Games and apps work as expected with such a small screen, but music decides when it'll play and always with clicks and pops. Maybe I'll try again this weekend.
I think I just unlocked gold. Installed once again and I just listened to an entire track.. without skipping, errors, click or pops. I hope this stays.. Because I'm messing with the EQ and I am realizing, this Clip sounds better than the original FW EQ allows.. even though I always knew it. Having the E3 and KSC-75, with gapless, just makes things better. One step closer to a fully stable version. Now it flowed so gaplessly into the next.. no errors. I think I just found my new all-time-use player.

Good to know, but the main point why I need rockbox is because it can tell time.
Off topic:By the way... I decided to order a fiio e5 again for the extra bass

You probably won't need the FiiO as a bass booster with Rockbox, since the EQ is really good.
As for the clicks and pops - that was with old builds. New ones work most of the time, and if not they lock up completely. Which happens very seldom.
