Default Amp for NWZ-A829....or not?

Hi everybody!

Received my A829 last week which Im currently using with a pair of HD-25 70 Ohm....
So far so good.
SQ very impressive compared to my 80GB Classic, but as far as volume level its lacking power. I havent tried with the original Sonys, prefer closed cans. Could it be that the Sony hasnt enough power to drive the HD-25's and if, would it be a good idea to buy an amp even though I have to run it via HP output (no line-out) from the Sony?

Any help appreciated

I've used 5-6 different sonys including the A820 with 80ohm DT770, and never were anywhere close to max volume. To be blunt, its prob a good thing that it doesnt go higher as that volume on closed cans = tinitus

From what I've read in different forums, it seems that there are a variety of opinions about volume levels on this unit. Maybe some kind of volume restriktion is embedded in the firmware?
Mine is from EU

I saw that the i7 outputs 2x26 mW...The Sony 2x5 mW....No doubt that I need an amp....What kind of cans are you using?

But now I'm looking into the D2....Whats the purpose having all these players....Will it never end....

Try the player with the included phones. I would buy them if they were sold separately because they are easy to drive (by that I mean loud at low volume) and probably why many reviews (including cnet) rate the play the best sounding out of the box.

You do not need a portable headphone amp with lower impedance phones/iem’s for DAP’s, headphones for portable use should have a maximum impedance of 64 ohms. The reason I decided to buy one was to test if the additional power would allow me to turn down the volume without losing the audio dynamics or sonic quality across the sound spectrum from highs to lows. As important, I wanted one to bypass my laptops sound card via the DAC. My determination is that a good amp increases the audio clarity at lower levels without coloring the sound and at the same time maintaining the detail of the music.

Besides a few pairs of stock buds, the iem's I use are CrossRoads MylarOne XB & X3, Sennheiser cx300 and ue11, I mainly use the ue11's.

The d2 is a great player, you should be happy with it. And per your statement "will it never end," I hope not

The thing is that Im very happy with my beefy HD-25's.
Mainly because of the isolation they provide, but also the sound and way they are built.
IEM's never really did it for me.
I ordered an RSA Hornet so we will see

I think you made the right choice, as the amp will only allow the A829 to sound more open, and the HD-25's to reach their full potential.

And, like WalkGood says, I hope it never ends myself!!!
