Test mode for the Sony NWZ-E436F Media Player?

Does anyone know how to get to the "Test mode" for the Sony NWZ-E436F Media Player so I can jack up the very poor volume level?

Hi, just found this on a French forum, I haven't tried it though so can't promise it will work.

Go to the main screen, put hold on, then hold Option and press Up, Up, Down, Down, Right, Left, Up, Down, Up, Down, Right and then Play. Turn off the Hold and the player should turn on. Press Up or Down to get into the MPTAPP MENU.

I hope my translation is right my french isn't brilliant.

Here's the original in case i've messed it up.

Pour aller dans le test mode, allez sur l'écran principale, faites hold, puis, tout en restant appuyé sur OPTION, faites haut, haut, bas, bas, droite, gauche, haut, bas, haut, bas, droite et PLAY. Vous déanclanchez le Hold, et votre MP3 ce rallume. Faites ensuite haut ou bas pour vous retrouver sur le MPTAPP MENU, allez dans "OTHER". Ensuite là, il y a deux option succeptibles je pense, de débrider ce f*utu son : DEST qui nous indique pour quel pays le MP3 a été envoyé (FR pour France) et SPSET pour le bridage à proprement parler. Seulement, voici le problème : Impossible de changer une de ces deux options.

I guess this is the most important sentence, cause it means, even if you can enter the menu, you can NOT change anything.

You could be right, but I was thinking that maybe that is because the writer is using a french player(they have stricter rules regarding volume).
I still can't get it to work so we may never know
