Default Zen not working

I connected my zen to my compute. I had to go to the add hardware to add the zen. When my windows media player 10 is on it says no device is detected, and when I go to my computer, there is no removable storage for zen.

Does your device light up when you connect it to your USB port (ie: starts charging, playing music or other media that's in the playlist, etc)?

Maybe your USB port isn't working? Have you tried using a different one (preferably in the back of your PC)?

If that doesn't do anything, can you provide some info on what windows you're using? I have WinXP with WMP10 and mine works fine.

WMP10 or 11 should install the MTP drivers so your hardware would be recognized. I guess your USB port is working if the player boots up when you connect it, so maybe you are not on an administrative account and can't add new hardware or something? I can't really come up with any other reason why WinXP would not recognize your device when you plug it in with your current configuration (especially when you have WMP10 installed).

I'm thinking its because I dont have the service pack 2 or 3. I'm going to update to 2 even though I don't want to. But I really appreciate your help.

My Zen worked fine with SP1 + WMP10. Now it works with SP2 + WMP10 as well so I don't think that'll do much. If it powers up when connected through USB and starts charging or displays that its connected in its battery icon, it should be installed automatically since you have WMP10.

You're welcome (I wish I could've helped more, but the obvious reasons were not the cause of the problem unfortunately).

Welcome awreadie. First thing's first. After connecting the Zen to the computer, check Device Manager to see if the Zen is being detected and having its driver loaded properly/without error. The Zen should be listed as Creative Zen under the Portable Devices category.

You may want to check out the Zen FAQ sometime as well.
