Default Advice for a new fuze user

Hi all

I'm coming over from the samsung yp-z5 camp over to the sansa fuze hotel!

i've just bought an 8gb black sansa fuze with a 4gb sdhc card

it will be used with a nice pair of old sony mdr-ex71sl's and mainly for commuting purposes

is there any advice, any tips and tricks i should know about?

also, can this player be used in 'drag'n'drop' mode?

It certainly can. Go to Settings->System Settings->USB Mode and select MSC. That makes it appear like a flash drive and compatible with just about any OS. Enjoy! Then read through this forum... You may need a firmware update, etc., but all the info is here

get a good case for it. I use a clear hard poly case for mine. It has it's advantages and disadvantages, so you might want to use something different especially to protect the screen.

Didn't know the 8 gig came in black. I just got mine, and could only find it in silver. Where did you get it?

I believe the black 8gb fuze was available at costco over the holidays. I'm not sure, but it may have been exclusive to costco.

In addition I also recommend an 8gb micro SDHC card. I have the 4gb model.

i think the 8gb onboard is ample space for me at the moment, my 2gb z5 wasnt even full!

on the upside, i did get a free 4gb card included with it

Sweet. Nice to have the option of black or silver. I like my silver though, with the clear Crystal Case. Got an 8 gig card on the way, although the 8 gig card I got at the same time as the Fuze was defective.

It was available at Costco Black Friday for $99 with a $40 instant coupon, I believe. Good price at B&H, $85.

I tend to like Costco as a reseller of these sorts of items. I find that what is really important in terms of a reseller is how they treat their inventory. There are some resellers that tend to run fork lifts into things and throw things agaisnt walls. Costco tends to be a bit more careful about how they handle things in stock. I have not run across a pre-dammaged item from them yet.

Pre-dammaged. I like the term. I also like the fact that Costco can check inventory of nearby stores for you. Typically, stores in outlying areas have less activity and might have something in stock that may not be found in the stores in the city.

You must live around Seattle. That's the only place I'm aware of with lots of Costcos.

I live near Buffalo NY. Closest US Costco is Pittsburgh area or is it Cleveland, I forget. Actual closest Costco is St Catharines Ontario.

If I had the player in MTP mode how would the player appear to the PC? Would I be able to put additional tracks onto the player? Is MTP for WMP only? I would assume that it would be a proprietary microsoft setting, as this is the way microsoft tends to do business (no competition). What are the advantages of the MTP mode?

jbc:

in msc mode, the Fuze is one drive letter, and the micro SD card is another.

if I recall rightly, in MTP mode, the Fuze is one item (not drive letter), with two devices as part of it. Sorry, it's about four weeks since my Fuze was in MTP mode.

Should mention that this was under windows, probably Vista, but maybe XP, and maybe even both. Can't recall which laptop I was playing with at the time.

I got my Fuze a couple days ago, very good unit. It's a red 4gb player, and I have 3 2gb micro-sd cards.

There it is with my 2gb Clip.
