My pilot won't recognize .txt files. Can anyone help?
Hello Everyone,
I'm glad to find this forum. I've read that you can add txt files to the pilot, but everytime I try, I get an error message saying that the file is not compatible. I have been trying to add the txt files to my media folder, but I read on here that you can add them anywhere, but the pilot won't let me. Does anyone know why? I have an insignia pilot 8gb. Thanks in advance for your help

What was the txt file created in? You could be seeing the Pilot not recognizing the TXT file because it is encoded in a non-supported coding? I am not sure which text encoding the Pilot supports.
When I wanted to see if it really worked I created a file in notepad. Don't know what what else to suggest. Dana

I *think* it has to be saved in a Plain Text format. I put an ebook on mine to read, but very hard to read and no bookmarking ability that I could find.

How are you trying to get the txt file into the Pilot? Using Windows Explorer?
Do you see an error message when copying the file or when trying to view it? I use Windows Explorer and my Pilot is set to "File & Folder" mode. Handy feature. Best for small txt files. Like artist/album info, song lyrics, or shopping lists.

You can drag & drop using the Automatic mode as well. I'll double check to see if this works with txt files. The reason I bring this up is that my experience with my Pilot is if I switch between "file and folder" and "automatic" mode I eventually lose songs and albums. Since I began operating in the Auto mode only, I have not last any music off my Pilot.
