Default Have you paid £8 each month for the free audio book?

Last week I received an email from Audible.co.uk requesting me to update my credit card information. I couldn't understand why they needed this information as I only used their service to download the free audio book after seeing the leaflet bundled with my Sansa Fuze.

It turns out the free trail the call an 'one month free membership' actually turns into a £8 monthly subscription if you don't actively ends the membership the first month. As neither the leaflet nor the email receipt I received after 'buying' the free audio book for £0.00 mentioned this I have paid £8 each month for some months now.

Am I the only one failing to notice that you had to end this membership to not get charged for an inactive Audible account?

Any time your credit card number is needed to get something 'free', you should read any and all fine print, and ask yourself if you *really want* whatever it is.

Agreed.....doesn't Rhapsody do the same thing? I have 3 of the little miniCD's that I never opened.

This is pretty much S.O.P. for any free trial... particularly one that asks for your credit card to give you something for "free."

I know... Maybe I have got a bit naïve because of the strong regulation here in Norway, but I would expect that it is clearly stated that I will have to discontinue the membership if I don't want to pay £8 each month.

Also, it wouldn't hurt if they sent me an email and notifying me that they are charging me for an inactive subscription. Perhaps I'm old man who's having difficulties using their services... E.g. I know some services automatically sends a 'who to get started' email if you don't use their service for some time.
