The V1 and V2 hardware is different. You can't actually combine parts from each, aside from the battery and shell.

If you want a V2, you should buy a working one.

No you cannot. As I said above, the hardware is different. You cannot combine parts from a V1 and V2 player and expect it to work.

easily. If you are really good at it, you might be able to throw something together. But at that point, just buy a working v1, or just cary around a v1 and a v2.

No, you can not throw something together. The v1 runs on a PortalPlayer chip, the v2 runs on an AMS chip, and the rest of the components and PCB are completely different as well. Not to mention the firmware differences.

That's like suggesting to use Mercedes parts to fix a Vespa.

They are not compatible. You cannot take a random radio out of another MP3 player and put it in a V1 anymore then you can take a radio out of a car and put it in an MP3 player.

I would expect this to destroy your Mp3 player, yes.

An old thread, but what the heck..

The FM chips appear to be different between the 2 versions.
You could potentially buy the V1 FM chip from the supplier, but learning to solder surface mount chips isn't trivial either. It would cost you more for equipment than buying another player with the chip already in.
