Changing the P3's region

Finally someone has figured out how to change the region on the P3. Found this thread while randomly browsing the generationmp3 forum.

I don't think you'll loose anything, but you'll gain korean>english/chinese dictionary if you download the necessary files from samsung's website.

I changed my region from Hong Kong to Europe. I gained:

1. RDS FM, so song titles played and/or station call signs displayed.

2. The ability to switch from UMS to MTC and back.

I do not understand why features are disabled in certain regions, but now my device is more capable than it was.

I already download file from your posted link and extract it. I change the region to Korea by copy config.dat file from Korea folder and paste it to P3 (same way as upgrade firmware) unplug and then reboot. Now my P3 can use Dictionary and Sketch book. (Fw 2.18)

it has a dictionary (useless if you don't read korean) and is permanently in UMS mode. I would only use UMS mode anyway, so I do use the korean region..

i found the dictionary, but i didn't want to take the chance to brick my p3 by hacking the region code. i was relying on the p3 and it's subway maps for the seoul subway system. i'll just wait until i get my ARC and i get a cellphone, the cellphones come with a korean/english dictionary too.

I donwload it and used the korean region one for my P3. I only got the dictionary one but when i tap on the dictionary and then went to the chinese dic. when i tapped on it, it poped up sayin that i have to use www.yepp.co.kr to download necessary dictionary files.
Am i the only one that have this problem or is it that i do have to go to that site and download the necessary dictionary files in order for the dictionary to work.

There is a dictionary file that is needed too. If you don't change region, you don't get anything when clicking a dictionary icon.

Now that you are getting the promp, when you drop the 45 meg file into the right location of the p3. The dictionary will work.

can someone clarify whats the difference on each firmware?
at least anyone that installed other than KR, what is the difference from default CN(like markr041 stated).

well, I know that the kr version has the dictionary, and only has UMS mode, instead of MTP. because I use a mac, I need it in UMS mode, and therefore use the kr region
