I am still against the mickey mouse looking controls, speakers are a gimmick and will attract dirt and grime. But it seems thin and the screen looks like its 16:9.

I got gapless on my S9 for mp3's (all I use on it BTW) - screw Sony!!!! Do gapless for mp3's and I'll get another player from them. Otherwise I stand by my decision. If Cowon can do it, WTF is Sony waiting for? Sorry for the rant, but Sony WAS my favorite brand - until lately.

I posted the intial prices a day or 2 back on sonyinsider for the new S and it seems I was right, 129 (8GB) and 149 euros (16GB).

Give me this in 32gb, and I'll overlook the lack of gapless and get 1. I'll settle for a Sony, damn it - I just love them!!!! The exception is the X1000 series, not for me.

The black definitely looks better. That screen does not look widescreen to me in this photo. I like the built-in stand but it looks like they went back to cheap headphones instead of the nice ones that come with the current S series. With the exception of a possible speaker, it just looks like a cosmetic overhaul.

The screen appears to be 4:3 and not 16:9 as indicated on the site, resolution 320 x 240 which is not 16:9.

If a 32gb model exists/existed it would probably carry the name S546 since that would be the 32 gig model.

My guess is that the new A series will have a 32gb model, since it usually was at the top end of the memory scale

agreed, video is not essential for me either, I'd want a nice screen, physical controls and a lot of memory, plus on the go playlists and gapless.

The links in post #12 contain references at the bottom of the page to the products page on the Sony France website. But the product page that it is referring to is the E series players. It looks like S series photos with E series specs to me. Interesting to note that even the new E series lists audio recording as a new feature, although there is still only 1 external headphone jack (no mic input). That tells me either FM recording or possibly a built-in mic.

Edit: The E Series does have a built-in mic.
Edit: E Series has built-in mic and FM recording. Hopefully these will carry over to the new S series too.
