New S Series Walkman (8, 16 GB)

I missed this in my first read of Ascariss' post, but the links he provided says that the screen size is 2.4". If those specs are true, that's bigger than the current size of 2.0". Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the A series currently has a 2.4" screen? That would be a nice feature upgrade for the S series.

Thanks. I knew it was for the E series though. I didn't get confused there.
I searched that link and typed in E445 and the E series popped up and found that they failed to mention FM recording. The link and video you gave seem to be the only places mentioning the FM recording. Thanks again.

well the only good thing is that the 16 gb models are pretty much affordable meaning any new 32gb models should be near affordable for the average person

I'm pretty 'meh' on the new models. The only thing of value I see is the voice recorder, but it's not a strong enough point for me to upgrade because of it exclusively.

The Mickey Mouse ears are just poor design...they should have seen that; makes it look like a kiddie product.

The speakers are totally unnecessary. Come on, what self-respecting music lover is going to use or need them? Again, they would have been appropriate as a novelty on a kiddie toy DAP, not on a serious audio product. In fact, it's kind of a minue sbecause stuff will get stuck in the little speaker holes over time - dirt and what have you. Makes it more vulnerable to damage.

By the way, why are people clamoring for FM? Doesn't the S-series alreayd have FM? I don't get it...did they take it away?

FM and voice recording is what we are clamoring about. Not FM radio.

Received a reply from Sony's e-Support...

The S-series is essentially the SAME as the E-series except..
1. NO Create Library function at startup or disconnect from PC
2. External speakers
3. Supposedly better battery life
4. Slightly higher cost (~$20-30 USD)
That's it!

According to Sony news releases...

Sony will release the updated S series in late Oct 2009 but only for Japan market. It will increase storage capacities to 32Gb/64Gb!

Eventually, it "should" be out for the rest of the world "later" whenever that is. Many online stores from Asia will carry them but expect to pay a high price esp. due to the exchange rates!
