Well,it's an option if you're obsessed with eliminating gaps....and it would make more sense to me than filling the entire memory with WAV files.

Well, I just got home with a black S545. No pics or impressions yet, going to let it charge first.

My last Walkman had a cassette player, so I really couldn't compare.
First impressions are here and I'll try to be more descriptive tomorrow after more time with it. It's about the same size as my Q2.

Do you think the S545 has higher output power than many other Sony players? I think many Sony players put out 5 mw/channel.

That's a good question. I haven't heard any of the other Sony models, so I can't compare it to any of them. I'm adding more music to it now, but when I compare it to the Clip, I will do it flat EQ on both, so I can get a fair comparison of output power.

Flat EQ???? It's the same as a Cowon, the EQ and sound enhancements are what make it LIVE!!!!!!

I know that....the flat EQ comparison is simply to compare the power of it to the Clip! Clear Bass rules, btw.

So the S545 is only $20 more than the S544? Why would someone buy the S544? These players don't have a card slot, so adding memory later is not an option.

That's an interesting question, because the new E-series 16GB is very close in price to the 8GB S544....makes you wonder which will sell better.

I did for a minute consider the $30 cheaper 16GB E-series....then thought about all I read here about the previous model's issues, and I'm certainly happy thus far.

Well, considering how frugal JK98 is, quite a few of his acolytes will go for the cheaper E Series, but bitch at the register that it doesn't have a user-replaceable battery and ask for a discount.

I am impressed with the sound of it so far, although I think the Q2 sound is a little better.

I got a screen protector today, now I wonder what cases for this player will cost. If I find an inexpensive case/skin for this S545, the Clip might be expendable....

I know the bass is heavier on the Q2, but I remember the S639 being the better sounding of the 2. It could be it's a better combo w/your Grado's.

It's too early to really say. There are more adjustments you can make with the Q2. But I need more listening time first, with all the 'phones.

I already have the perfect settings on the Q2 for the Grados and the HTX7's, but I haven't had time yet to tinker much with the S545. There's still the PX100's to try out, as they get more head time than my others. KSC75's are easy to set up becasue they're similar to the Grados, (not nearly as good, mind you).

How does the SQ of the S545 compare to that of the S639? I'm leaning toward the older model for the sake of functionality (and design).

Well, last night I set up the same song on the S545 and the Clip, both players with flat EQ/no enhancements, both players at 50% volume, and with the KSC75 and the SR60i, the Sony was noticeably louder.

I did turn off the dynamic normalizer before I compared them, yes. And I'll try to get a few pics today.
